Matching stopped working after PMS 1.28.0.5999 update

Server Version#: 1.28.0.5999
Player Version#: 1.49.1.3146-73559c78

Updated yesterday and ever since matching returns a blank list with the words “No matches found.” Matching has always worked. I’ve been runnning a PMS for years. The recent switch to the Plex agents speeded up the process, making matching almost instant, but it always works. Nothing changed on my system exept for updating PMS frm 1.27.x to 1.28.x. I add music and video titles almost daily so I am very versed in the process. It worked when adding stuff yeaterday morning, but after the update nothing.

I’ve attached the log. Starting at time stamp Aug 03, 2022 16:31:39.555 you see that I attempted to Match a sries called Tokyo Vice. From what I can see it loaded metadata, but no such data appears in the Plex UI.

Anyone else having match failiure with PMS 1.28.x?

Help. Plex is useless without matching. Thx.

Im seeing ERROR - [Req#a0/MetadataAgent/tv.plex.agents.series] Unable to find media provider Not sure what the root cause is, can you please post your entire server logs instead of just the one file?

I saw that error too. Here’s the full set of logs.

Thanks for any light you can shed on the issue.

Hmm, this is a bit strange. I can see the server requesting the media providers (metadata comes from one of these providers) but the response is empty.

Not entirely sure why that would happen, but firstly could you simply just try restarting the server. If that doesn’t work could you sign out of the server and then reclaim it (just make sure you’re on the same network as the server before doing this).

If you still can’t come right ping me.

Both restarting the server and signing out and back in again made no difference. I sttill can’t match anything. However, I changed the TV library to use the old Plex series scanner and was able to match something from the TVDB. I then tried to switch back to the Plex TV series scanner and my changes could not be saved. I tried several times, but the setting change will not save.

Also, another oddity introduced with the PMS 1.28.x update is in the Web UI. I do all my adding, editing, deleting, etc. via Safari and the web UI. Since the 1.28.x update clicking either Home or the Plex logo does not return to Home but rather reports that something went wrong. The only way to get back to Home is by refreshing the page.

Thanks for looking into this.

Yesterday I discovered the reason why the movie posters changed to wide background style thumbnails. I noticed the library icon in the side bar was no longer the film icon, but had changed to the movie camera (Other Videos) icon. It appears that the 1.28.x update switched the library type on first launch.

I did some experimenting. I created additional Movies libraries (Movies 2 & Movies 3) pointing to the the same Movies media files location as the now messed up Movies library. I set each one to use different scanners/agents. As the scanner did its thing and I watched the library populate, the screen began to fill with proper poster thumbnails. Movies 2, using scanner Plex Movie Scanner and agent Personal Media, created posters from embedded keyframes and grabbed no metadata. Movies 3, using scanner Plex Movie Scanner and agent The Movie Database, created proper posters and populated all the art and metadata. I then created Movies 4, using scanner Plex Movie and agent Plex Movie. Although it did create proper posters, they were all keyframes and no meta data was captured.

I switched my TV library to use TVDB and matching worked. I switched my Music library to use last fm and music now matches properly.

I deleted the experimental Movies 2, 3, and 4 libraries, Optimized the DB, Cleaned Bundles, and restarted PMS. I edited the Movies library to use scanner Plex Media Scanner and agent The Movie Database. The side bar icon changed back to the movie icon, the wide thumbnails returned to proper posters, and matching, although slow compared to the new scanner/agent, worked perfectly.

It’s clear that the new scanner/agent is malfunctioning on all media types, while their legacy counterparts are working as they always did.

I can live just fine with old school slower matching, but I hope you guys can track down the bug and squash it.
