PMS crashing daily on Synology NAS

For the past month, with multiple PMS updates, my Plex server on a Synology DS1019+ running DSM 6.2.4-25556 has been randomly crashing, and with no obvious cause in the logs. And when I start PMS back up through the DiskStation web GUI, I always get “Failed to run the package service”, but Plex runs and the run button changes to stop, as expected. Any idea what’s happening here?

I’m in the same boat. I can re-start the Plex Media Server in the Synology Package Center, but it shouldn’t be shutting down.

Updated to 1.24.2.4973, and it’s still happening. Plex Media Server Logs_2021-09-06_13-27-30.zip (4.5 MB)

@coggy9

I’m VERY sorry I didn’t see this until now. (no notifiication of your post)

Would you please look in the PMS TMP folder?

When crashes are uploaded (which seems to have happened), the crash report gets moved there.

If there’s no DMP file, I’d like to ask you to :

  1. Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced
  2. Turn Crash Reporting OFF
  3. The next time it crashes, we’ll have a DMP file
  4. Plex / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server / Crash Reports / 1.24.2.4973 / PLEX MEDIA SERVER
  5. Please put that DMP file in a ZIP
  6. Upload it , with the ZIP logs here and I’ll do a post-mortem on it to see where it failed.

EDIT: tmp_transcoding ( been a long day )

@ChuckPa
Do you mean “/tmp”? There is only a “tmp_transcoding” in the root of the Plex metadata shared folder, and no “tmp” folder in “Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server”.

I’m running 1.24.3.5033 now, and it hasn’t crashed yet, but if it crashes again, I’ll follow your instructions and send another reply.

I did mean tmp_transcoding directory.
sorry
