PMS crashing on Synology DS218+

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9
Player Version#: various (xbox, chrome, tv)

I’ve recently noticed that Plex does not seem to stay running on my Synology DS218+ NAS. I’ve had this installed for perhaps six months now and haven’t noticed an issue until recently, but it’s possible this has been happening for some time now (weeks). I’m not an uber frequent Plex user.

I can re-start the app for some time by hitting “run” from this menu, but it doesn’t seem to stay in a running state for more than a few hours until stopping again. From the logs, it appears there are crash reports being sent to Synology, but I don’t see a direct error anywhere.

The most recent crash appears to have been during “expensive tags write” for a music album, whatever that means. The crash soon followed.

I’ll reply and upload the crash dumps to this topic in case they are helpful.

Good find - I had 3 libraries configured, and one of those paths was /volume2/ instead of the correct one. I’ve adjusted that.

I’ll review disabling the recycle bin in paths that I might not need it. I don’t do a lot of work in these areas so it’s likely I can disable these from within Synology.

I’ll look into ffmpeg but at first glance reviewing all the video files for proper encoding doesn’t look like a straight shot.

Appreciate the quick feedback! I’ll let this run after making the changes and see if it keeps up for 24 hours.

For posterity, I found a way to run ffmpeg based on the batch script posted here: https://superuser.com/questions/100288/how-can-i-check-the-integrity-of-a-video-file-avi-mpeg-mp4

Went through the first 10% of my library in about an hour, will let it go overnight.

Thanks @trumpy81 for the help and for providing your own script. It’s a bit more friendly so I’m running your version now as well.

Plex hasn’t crashed or anything since I re-defined the libraries away from /volume2/, so I think that was our fault here. I’ll update this thread if it happens to crash again with similar symptoms.

Much appreciate the help!
