I recently noticed that in \Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\ there are many folders named “Plug-ins-*********”. A new one gets created with every PMS update, it seems. I went ahead and deleted all but the latest one, and I haven’t had any issues since. Could a dev chime in as to whether all those folders (with the same content) are supposed to be there in the first place? I don’t think this has always been the case either, or I would have had many, many more of those folders.
I also have several folders of Plugins in the Resources folder. However, they do not all have the same set of Bundle files.
Do I have to go back through all of the folders to find the latest of a particular type of Bundle file or is it really safe just to keep the latest batch. For example, there are several bundle files that aren’t in the latest (2023-09-14) set of files.
I did notice that as well, but with every new Plex install/update, only the latest Plug-ins folder and its content gets used. Been running with only one folder for a while now, and all is fine (so far).
I hate to be a pest about this, but from looking at rammap64, the files I see in use are NOT from the latest set. It is a coincidence that the files that are in use just happen to be from one of the examples I showed in my previous post.
I am far from an expert in this field, so I may not be interpreting this correctly. I am just feeling my way around some of the SysInternals utilities attempting to determine if I have Plex memory leak problems.
In the mean time, I am not going to delete the files that are currently in use.
I understand what you’re saying, but think about it this way: If you were to uninstall and re-install PMS from scratch, there would then only be one plug-ins folder, the latest one. That was my train of thought here anyway
I noticed something else, but related. When newer versions of DLLs are included in PMS updates, the old ones do not get removed. That is, assuming they are no longer needed.
The team did make an attempted fix but there it did not take because of another issue the server team is currently looking into. I don’t have an ETA for this unfortunately
Don’t try to Micro-Manage the program folder in order to gain a few megabytes storage back.
You can always uninstall and then reinstall, which clears up the program folder.
Just be careful when you do this, to disable and not use any 3rd-party software like “Uninstallers”, or “Registry Optimizers”, or similar tools.
