Server Version#: Version 1.40.0.7998
Player Version#: Web
Hi,
As in the subject, I cannot update server from Version 1.40.0.7998 to Version 1.40.1.8227 via normal web interface (General/Download - Install).
The circle is rolling for several minutes, server is inaccessible for several minutes, than it shows the same old Version 1.40.0.7998 and shows that an update is available.
I feel that this behavior could be related to these previous issues:
Since you quoted my thread, I suggest you try uninstalling and reinstalling PMS. Doesn’t wipe any settings, but clears out some obsolete files and folders. Just a thought…
Thank you for suggestion, most probably I’ll do it, but also, first, maybe someone from staff could use my report to identify the issue.
BTW, sa2000 made the connection between your thread and the other one (I think my post/issue in the other thread was the one mentioned by sa2000 in your thread).
Thank you,

I would need some log files from the local app data area for user SYSTEM
Could you collect these logs for me and zip and attach rge zips
Start / Run / cmd and right click on “Command Prompt” and click on “Run As Administrator”
In the elevated command prompt window - we need to copy out a number of Logs and subfolders to an accessible area for windows explorer so you can zip and attach
In the commands I give below, I am creating some folders to copy to on your G: drive)
mkdir "G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\System32-Logs"
mkdir "G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\SysWow64-Logs"
mkdir "G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\SystemTemp-Logs"
mkdir "G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\Temp-Logs"
xcopy /E "C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs" "G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\System32-Logs\"
xcopy /E "C:\Windows\SysWoW64\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs" "G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\SysWow64-Logs\"
copy "C:\Windows\Temp\Setup Log*.txt" "G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\SystemTemp-Logs\"
copy "C:\Windows\Temp\Plex*.log" "G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\SystemTemp-Logs\"
copy "%LocalAppData%\Temp\Setup Log*.txt" "G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\Temp-Logs\"
copy "%LocalAppData%\Temp\Plex*.log" "G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\Temp-Logs\"
And zip and attach the 4 folders
G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\System32-Logs
G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\SysWow64-Logs
G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\SystemTemp-Logs
G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\Temp-Logs
In addition to the diagnostics mentioned above, could you also check this
In windows explorer., open this folder G:\!!PLEX\!!PLEX\Plex Media Server\Updates\1.40.1.8227-c0dd5a73e\packages\
and right click on file PlexMediaServer-1.40.1.8227-c0dd5a73e-x86_64.exe
and select “Properties”
and get me screenshots of these Properties tabs General, Details and Digital Signatures tabs
After a lot of digging here and there, inside plex logs, windows events logs, etc, I’ve found that the TEMP variable in windows was set to a folder that didn’t exist anymore (I’ve forgot about a drive removal and I did not set the TEMP variable accordingly).
After setting the correct folder for TEMP variable, the update was made normally.
Still, it’s a little bit strange, why the installer didn’t use a “default” folder, as a lot of other installers do.
