PMS indefinitely buffers with transcoding 4K on Nvidia Shield

Server Version#: 1.26.1.5772
Player Version#: 9.2.0.32439

When I start playing a movie, PMS will report it as “Buffering” and I will see the system resources such as the CPU and GPU go up as if it’s actually about to play, but it never does. I’ve tried with and without hardware acceleration.

This only seems to happen with Dolby Vison transcoding as well, standard HDR10 plays fine. Plex for Windows and the Android app will play Dolby Vision and HDR10. So it’s defiantly something unique to the Nvidia Shield.

In case it’s useful, I’ve attached the PMS logs.

I would also like to point out that as of installing the latest update on my Linux PMS yesterday, this issue is now occurring on it.

Although, similar to my Windows PMS, I’m still able to transcode regular HDR10. I’m also still able play Dolby Vision and HDR10 transcodes on Plex for Windows and the Android app. It seems that whatever changed in the latest Linux version made it function the same way as it does on Windows now.

I’ll update my post with logs when I get a chance to collect them.

Hi, I had similar ‘buffering’ issues, put them here in the forum, but mine are related to the size of the files, I had a 352p file that kept buffering until I turned it down to 320p.
The file runs smooth on VLC, so maybe look in that direction…

Yeah mine play fine in VLC as well. But I typically use my Nvidia Shield, so I’m trying to get that working.

Here are the logs from my Linux PMS:

Not sure why @ChuckPa removed the “server-linux” tag, so I’ll readd that.

Can confirm problem still exists in Windows PMS Version 1.27.0.5849, logs below:

EDIT: Also still occurring in Linux PMS Version 1.26.2.5797, logs for it:
