Plex Media Server v1.13.8.5395
NVIDIA Shield 2018, 16GB
I have tried setting up PMS to use my external USB storage but every time I restart the Shield, PMS reverts back to Internal storage. First I tried this with an SSD USB storage. Then I tried with a USB flash drive (Sandisk) and both times I have the same problem.
I just bought the Shield and so far have wasted two days worth of my time setting this up and it does not work. I guess I just have to send the Shield back and say good bye to Plex before even start using it. What a shame.
Start Shield. Setup device. Login to google account. Wait for the software updates to finish.
Setup static IP on the Shield
Add SMB share to Shield
Make sure all updates are finished. Start Plex client on Shield. Login to plex.tv. It finds the PMS server: “You have a Plex Media Server on this device”. Setup the server and then go to PMS settings and change storage to External storage (USB drive). It says: “Awesome, your storage location has been changed! Plex On!”. Add Movie folder and scan for media. All works fine.
Now, restart the Shield. Start Plex client and you are greeted with: “You have a Plex Media Server on this device”. As if it’s the first time you are setting up the PMS. Click next and set it up again. In the settings you will see that it’s using the Internal Storage.
On https://app.plex.tv/desktop there are now two servers with the same name. One is available, the other is unavailable.
