PMS - Limited Connection

Server Version#: 1.16.6.1592
Player Version#: N/A

Hello all,

I had to do a rebuild of my Synology NAS, which forced me to re-install my PMS on my NAS. When I went to connect to to the PMS, via the web app on my home PC for the first time it is telling me that I have a limited connection to the PMS. I do not understand how this can be when my PMS is on 192.168.1.20 and my home PC is on 192.168.1.5. We are on the same network, so there should not be any limitation.

Why is this happening? Do I need to enable something on the PMS to remove this?

Thanks,
Steve

Correct me if I am wrong but that announcement seems geared towards shares and permissions on shares. I am not even at that point yet. As mentioned I installed the PMS and then went to connect to it via my Chrome browser. At that time I got the limited connection message and now I have a yellow exclamation point next to the PMS name. Am I missing something?

I think I found my issue, and yes you were totally on the right track. The Plex user had no permissions, so this solved that problem.

I do have one other question. In the server configuration you can change the secure connections options. Each time I change it to Required I lose visibility to the PMS. Is there something I need to do to enforce this, without losing PMS visibility?

Roger that…

OPlex Media Server Logs_2019-09-04_14-03-34.zip (1.3 MB) k I am still getting the limited connections message, so I still think I have something going on. I read up on the relay functionality but since this is a home setup I would not think I would have this issue happening. As mentioned earlier my web browser is on the same subnet as the PMS, so I would expect a direct connection. I have dumped the logs, and they are in a zip. They are attached for your review, if you do not mind!

So when I connected to the PMS it told me it had a limited connection. Here is the message attached.Annotation%202019-09-04%20153213

Ok and here is the preferred network setup.

With DEBUG logging enabled and VERBOSE logging disabled,

  1. Restart PMS
  2. Wait 60 seconds for it to stabilize after restart
  3. Attempt to play something remotely.
  4. Let it play 10 seconds and then stop
  5. Wait another 30 seconds for logs to flush
  6. Download the ZIP logs
  7. Attach the ZIP file here.
  8. Also please advise if the DSM firewall is enabled and Remote Access indicates “Green” condition

Hi Chuck,

Long time no speak. I hope all is well with you.

Remotely? This is a local issue I am running into. Yes the DSM firewall is enabled. Where would I find the remote access condition?

Please do create the logs for me. If this issue is local, it’s most likely a plex.direct DNS rebinding issue.

So I found the DNS rebinding option on my home firewall and disabled it. I then generated the logs. Could you take a look and see if I am now hitting the server directly? I am also curious. Do I have to keep DNS rebinding off or is there a workaround?

Some additional information for you Chuck…

I am running OPNsense 19.7.3 here. I have Unbound DNS running. I have the ability to toggle the DNS Unbind check but if there is a config I need to implement to leave DNS Unbind in place I would prefer it.

Thanks,
Steve
