PMS No longer Remotely Accessible After Moving Server from Windows PC to Synology

Server Version#: 1.42.2.10156

I’ve been running Plex for years with the database and server on a windows PC and the media on Synology. I’ve been through house moves, ISP changes, moves between diskstations, replacement routers, during all of this remote access has worked without a hitch. The server PC recently died, instead of running on a new PC I decided to run it all off the Synology (DS918+). Basically nothing has really changed other than that. Since the move, I can no longer access remotely.

No firewall issues. No double nat (I run ISP modem to my own internal TP-Link router). Static IP for the NAS. 32400 is forwarded in the router using the NAS IP for both TCP and UDP. Tried disabling UPnP. Manually specified port in Plex.

When I try external port checkers I’m being told the port is closed. I tried adding a custom port to the NAS in External Access → Router Configuration but that fails on tests as well. I’ve also added port forwarding in my ISP modem (can only point to an IP address of something directly connected, so that’s my router), that fails.

It’s an oddball thing but my gateway IP is 192.168.4.1 but my DHCP server sets 192.168.6.50-250. No idea why/how that happened (maybe a typo when I first set up the router?) but it was not an issue with the windows PC as the Plex server. The only thing that really should’ve changed here is the IP address of the server. I’m not hitting the CERT issue, I’ve checked the logs and the message doesn’t exist.

I also get hit with the “Fully accessible outside your network”, then a short time later it fails.

I do have a Plex Lifetime Pass.

I’m stumped.

I think I may have fixed part of it with the change I made to the ISP modem, enabling port forwarding there seemed to open up remote connections. And it turns out the external port checkers were failing because I set my router to not respond to wan pings. When I turned that off, the check succeeded.

Now when I log into the app and connect as me, I’m able to see the library and contents. However, even though I’ve granted access to a number of users, most of them are missing the Libraries icon and the one that DOES have it gets an error saying the server appears to be offline. That sounds like maybe an issue with the Plex Lifetime Pass?
