PMS not playing .avi movies

Server Version : 1.23.2.4656
Player Version : Amazon Fire TV latest release, Firefox or Chrome browser

Hi there,

I am Plex user since…a long time haha…since my last NAS crashed I moved now to a TrueNAS System and everything seemed to work very well, fast and just perfect. I did not migrate the Plex Library…meaning I let Plex built it by itself again.

But now the problem - I cannot play any of the .avi movies or series files I have saved.

One of the movies that doesnt play has the following exif data:

  • Container MP4
  • Codec H264
  • Bitrate 1651 kbps
  • Bit Depth 8
  • Chroma Location left
  • Chroma Subsampling 4:2:0
  • Coded Height 400
  • Coded Width 944
  • Frame Rate 23.976 fps

Another one is this:

  • Container AVI
  • Codec MPEG4
  • Bitrate 987 kbps
  • Bit Depth 8
  • Chroma Location left
  • Chroma Subsampling 4:2:0
  • Codec ID XVID

I guess it may be the transcoder ? But anyways I have no idea how to fix that :frowning:

Best,
scp

I am pretty sure Plex doesn’t support XVID. I transcode my files like this with handbrake into a nice mp4 h.264 file. No issues on any player with this.

The second file has been working on a ASUSTOR NAS and on a macOS Plex AND all that also a week ago on the trueNAS system. But I am kinda desperate, I gonna convert 100k files/movies/episodes? If thats the last resort - of course - but if there are other solutions … highly appreciated

We can close this topic, the issue was the underlaying freeBSD of the trueNAS Distribution, I have now setup an Ubuntu 20.04 with the exact same files and it playes just perfectly on every device. Sorry for bothering and thank you for your kind help!
