PMS Not removing some titles?

PMS Version 1.12.0.4829

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to add my OS.
Distributor ID: Debian
Description: Debian GNU/Linux 9.4 (stretch)
Release: 9.4
Codename: stretch

I can’t say when this started as I was just trying to fix 2 mismatched movie titles. When doing the Plex Dance (moving the titles outside of the scanned directory, re-scanning, optimizing database, clean and then empty trash) the two titles remain, with ‘0 Movies’ under the thumbnail. That’s correct, I have moved the movies outside of the scanned directory, but why are the movie titles and thumbnails still there?

It’s only 2 titles that I have been dealing with. Space Battleship Yamato Odessy of the Celestial Ark and Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection.

Attached is a screenshot.

The sequence is:

  1. Move out
  2. Scan
  3. Empty Trash (what scan marked as deleted)
  4. Clean Bundles (because now there are no references in the trash can for PMS to later find)
  5. Optimize (remove all traces of the database entries including checksum ‘fingerprint’)
  6. Move back
  7. Scan

In this case, also double check they point to the same file

Heh, all this time I’ve just been going in the order they popped up in the menu. All right, let me do this real quick in the correct order.

Ok. Plex has now correctly identified the two movies but there are 2 extra thumbnails (marked in red) that say 1 movie each, and they point to the directory that that movie is in. So basically, the green outlined movies are correct, the 2 movies circled in red point to the same movie as left movie in the green.

That sounds like client caching. First, please make certain the contents are not marked as “Not Available”.

If so, you probably removed the entire directory structure (holding directory and media file) ?

Once it gets stuck, as yours has, it takes a step to convince PMS it’s not ‘unavailable’. The cause of this is PMS tries to protect from files, which are on a USB drive, being removed just because it’s unplugged / not turned on. It’s not an easy choice but this was chosen to save your entire library versus having to manually deal with one stuck one.

To correct it, make the directory where it used to be, with the same exact name, but leave it empty and Scan again.
You should see it go away. After it goes away, empty the trash. Now you can remove the empty directory.
This kind of thing also happens when people put media folders in the root directory of a drive. Everything should be down at least one directory level below the root. That’s all it takes to avoid problems like this.

If not, there’s another problem (permissions or something else I’ll need the logs for) so please go to settings - server - help - download logs and attach that zip

That sounds pretty much what was happening. I figured out another way to fix it. Edit the info of the thumbnail and blank out all text in the title, sort by, etc. fields under the “General” tab, and save it. When I did that, for lack of a better word, the ‘stale’ thumbnails went away!

But when I moved the directory containing the movies and re-scanned, they just came back.

I blanked out the title and sort by after adding them back and re-scanned and the two ‘stale’ thumbnails went away.

Scanned, emptied, cleaned and optimized and they are still gone.

Attached are my logs in case you are able to find something that might help others in the future.

Thanks for your quick response, @ChuckPA !

@ChuckPA really meant to say

That sounds like COLLECTIONS
as your attached image shows.

It is a little annoying that empty collections show up, but it is easily fixed. You can either delete the collection, or hide collections from being displayed. Some information on collections can be found here:

I will thank folks to not put words in my mouth. There’s barely enough room for my foot!
