PMS not showing my library but files are still playable in the recently uploaded section on Apple TV

Server Version#:7.0.1-42218 update 3
Player Version#:1.25.9.5721.-7000

Hello,

I uploaded some DVDs to my NAS drive in June and got it all working so I could use Plex to watch the films on my Apple TV.

I haven’t looked at it since, but went to look today and I can’t see my library on the Plex server.

If I launch the Plex Media Server from my NAS and visit the ‘Your Media’ tab, it says there isn’t anything there and asks me to download PMS. But I opened the PMS directly from there NAS, so I can’t download it again.

If I open the Plex app on my Apple TV, I can see the films in the ‘recently downloaded’ section and they play without problem, but I can’t see my library.

I’m not brilliant at tech stuff, I’ve managed to wangle my way through this by reading the forum and the support pages, so it may be something simple I have overlooked.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Thank you

Is your server linked to your Plex account?
If not, you might want to open the server’s web app “locally” → (1) browse to http:[Syno IP address]:32400/web from within the same subnet, (2) open Settings > [Server Name] > [General] and (3) click on the Sign In button next on that settings page (next to the “This server is unclaimed…” message).

If your server isn’t linked to your Plex account, apps inside the same local network might still see it but you won’t be able to access it using the hosted web app or using some advanced features.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately I don’t know if my server is linked to my Plex account. So I tried to follow your instructions, but I don’t know how to browse within a subnet.

I Googled it and I now understand (sort of) what a subnet is, but I’m still not sure how to browse within one. I thinking it’s something I need to do from within the NAS, but I don’t know where to look. I Googled this as well, but I couldn’t find anything that made enough sense for me to follow.

I totally appreciate that I am not knowledgable enough to be owning a NAS drive. I think I was miss sold it years ago, but I decided to stick with it and learn what I can.

If you have time to give me some more detailed info about what I need to do, I would very much appreciate it, but I also understand that if it is too longwinded to explain to me, then you may not have the time to do this.

Thank you

Usually your home network is the subnet you’re dealing with. Some users have segmented their home network in different sub networks.

All you need to know is the local IP address of your Syno NAS.
With that, open a browser of your choice and navigate to http://[Syno NAS IP address]:32400/web (replacing [Syno NAS IP address] with the actual IP address).

You might also be able to achieve the same by clicking on Open or Configure in the Syno’s app center for the Plex Media Server app. I’m a bit cautious because there’s occasionally users who have enabled various services on there NAS that will interfere or mess up the local IP address (instead opening some Synology based URLs).

Ah, I really appreciate that, thank you.

That’s actually what I tried first, but it didn’t work. I think it was because I didn’t get the IP address correct, but it still didn’t work when I changed it, just a blank Google search page.

I double checked I was using the correct IP address and I am. I’ve tried it with and without the square brackets, but I can’t make it work. :frowning:

There’s unlikely to be anything that would mess up using your second option. The only things I have installed on my NAS are Plex and iDrive and I don’t change many settings for anything because I don’t know how.

So I tried it by going to the package centre, but when I look at PMS the only options are open, stop and uninstall. I can’t see anything that says ‘configure’.

Any ideas?

Use Open

Oh, right. Sorry, we may have been at cross purposes. This is how I opened it in the first place.

Once it’s open, that’s where I can’t see my library. It’s asking me to download PMS but I opened it from PMS.

I did look in the settings, but couldn’t see anything about linking it to the NAS.

It worked fine when I originally set it up. I wondered if an update may have changed something.
