I read thru this thread and Im starting to think there are several issues at play here.
Can we get a screenshot of the add folders part of the library, and exact file paths for one of the affected shows?
I suspect that we have a case of intermediate directories, and including the tvdb id in the file name and not the folder name. Which is what I think is causing plex to choke.
What do you mean " the add folders part of the library"? Iāll give you all the captures you want, but Iām not sure I understand the terminology.
I get the issue in both TV shows and Movies.
In both cases, the metadata was embedded in the .mp4 files, but Plex was not using it (and either not displaying anything at all or displaying something that wasnāt accurate because the match had found another show or movie).
I started adding the tmdbs IDs to the file names to try and mitigate that issue.
I understand from your post that for series it might be desirable to add the tmdbs ID to the parent folder where the show is stored instead of the file names themselves, but Iām not sure how it applies to movies (which are not stored on separate folders ā all my movies live in the same folder).
In all cases, as far as I see it, in a perfect world it should always use the metadata I added myself (especially since thatās how the preferences implied it would do for me).
In a less than perfect world, at worse, if it doesnāt find a match, it should at least default to the embedded metadata (which, obviously, for cover arts, it doesnāt).
Iām not worried that Plex doesnāt find a match. Iām concerned that it refuses to use the embedded metadata. Even if I try to edit the item in the Plex app itself, it doesnāt offer the embedded cover art. Itās like it doesnāt see it exists.
