Server Version#:4.4.3.1400
Player Version#:4.41.1
For some reason the media player server has stopped working after upgrading to 1.20.1.3252 and even though I’ve tried downgrading the media server version, the QNAP-TS451 and Plex don’t wanna play ball any more.
The only error I’ve seen in the QNAP logs is ‘Warning: Could not create PlexData share. Further assistance is available in our support forums. Continuing without.’
I’ve tested the latest PMS on my TS-253 and it installed fine but it just won’t work on the TS-451… any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Read through this thread, it may help.
I’m nervous about the creation of a symlink in there — if one of the docker containers with read/write to the data share can follow that symlink, now any vulnerability in that container app can achieve malicious access to PMS which isn’t containerized.
There’s a “principle of least surprise” in monkeying with other people’s storage mappings, doubly important when it comes to paths and security.
Sounds like PMSLibShare would have been ideal, agree about not asking for admin creds to get it. Th…

I can’t explain why this is so.
I suggest reading that which has transpired since the referenced post rather than the singular complaint about having the functionality.
May I also highlight the QNAP FAQ which now documents the feature.
Q28: How to use the PlexData share
The PlexData share, available in PMS 1.19.5 and above, can be used in multiple ways, like:
Obtain log files to post in the forum when Plex misbehaves
Add hidden preferences to your Plex configuration (Preferences.xml)
Backup / Restore your entire Plex installation
Use of the PlexData share is completely optional. It is a diagnostic and support mechanism. It has no active interaction with PMS itself. PMS is completely unaware of this mechanism and i…
