PMS on Apple TV

Hi all,

Currently tossing up between an Nvidia Shield 2019 when it’s released in Australia or getting an Apple TV. Just wondering, are there any reasons behind why PMS isn’t on Apple TV? Would it be a possibility in the future?
Saw another thread about it but no real answers unfortunately.

The Shield is slightly different from other streaming boxes such as the Apple TV, Roku or most Android TV boxes. In that way it can not only act as a playback device but also work as a Plex Media Server.

It’s e.g. better suited for that than the Apple TV as it has USB ports to expand the limited built-in storage.
Also… you don’t necessarily want your streams to drop-out if your Apple TV is doing some heavy lifting (e.g. gaming).

Beyond that, the Apple TV is a great streaming box to act as a Plex Client… there’s no actual need to have the server on the same machine as your client.

This is not a possibility currently. There’s no way for tvOS to have local storage or to access and serve network storage. And I doubt very much that Apple is going to make those things possible, for example, you still can’t download media content on to the Apple TV’s internal storage).

Thanks! Didn’t know about those limitations.
