Issues here as well.
Updated to 1973. didn’t have any problems until rebooted for windows updates.
Now all video seems to buffer for 5 minutes before starting and keeps having to buffer.
Dell R710
Windows Server 2016
Going to uninstall and reinstall older version. Anything else I can do to help Plex resolve the issue?
update:
Downgraded to 1.18.1.1966 and it still takes forever to start playback.
Downgraded to 1.17.0.1841 …same.
Did I break something with windows updates? Just installed KB4519979
update 2:
LAN playback to my roku is fine now.
remote playback to web browser player is still broken. The odd thing I’ve noticed is that on my dashboard the server thinks the video is playing (shows “playing” and time is advancing), but in the browser I just get the spinning circle.
I noticed that I was able to play MP4 files, however when I attempted to play MKV files that previously worked, Plex Media server crashes immediately. Going to try and rollback version now because disabling HW acceleration didn’t help for me.
Started crashing for me on the 1973 update, still crashing with the 1.18.2.2015 update. The server will crash randomly more often than normal, and it will definitely crash the moment I try to play a video that requires transcoding.
At first, I thought it had to do with qbittorent as I upgraded around the same time. But after rolling back qbittorrent and still having the same problem, I dug some more.
Recommended in this thread, I turned off hardware acceleration which seems to have helped.
Still figuring it all out as to what is working and what isn’t…
I am having the same issue. The Server app doesnt crash exactly it just becomes unreachable. I have tried downgrading, i went to 1.18.0.1944 and that didnt fix it. Trying 1.17.0.1841. Hardware transcoding via P2000.
I am on Version 1.18.2.2015 and mine keeps crashing, I have disabled hardware transcoding and will see if that works. Its weird though I directly play most of my stuff and it is still crashing. I have never had plex crash this many times on me.
Just to update, after having Hardware Acceleration turned off for over 24hrs now, I can confirm it has made a clear difference.
No matter if qbtorrent is running or not people seem to be able to connect and stream from various clients now that HWA turned off. Locally replaying the same moves I that were failing before now all are playable.
Noticed other strange things like search not working right, but I am thinking since it clearly seems to be with PMS (or possibly NVidia) now and not my system specifically, as I first thought, I am might sit tight, since the work around is seemly working for me now, to see how soon the folks at PLEX push out an update.
Has anyone from PLEX actually acknowledged something is wrong with 1973?
I too updated to 1973 PMS a day or two ago. However, server was still operating normally. Then this afternoon a windows update ran and a restart was required. I was having PMS crash the second any device, including playback FROM the server, would start.
Found this thread - Disabled hardware acceleration on server - Presto - Playback from server, webapp, Roku and Cell Phone app now working properly.
Now - will Plex Devs please look into this? I’m hoping we see an update with the fix quickly as hardware acceleration is part of what makes this server great!
I am having the same issue. It is very consistent and repeatable with any attempt with a remote connection while hardware transcoding is enabled. I started to dig into Event Viewer logs for just a minute to see an error related NTDLL.DLL before I realized this seems to be a widespread issue. At this point I think Plex is fully aware of the issue and is hopefully working on a fix. I know crap happens sometimes, I just wish there would have been an acknowledgement by the Plex team saying it’s an issue at least. It would have been nice if that update was also pulled to investigate the issue considering this is making Plex unusable for most. Depending on how long it takes to resolve this and/or how complicated it is, I may unselect “Beta” and also put off updates for a month like I started to do with Microsoft/Windows.
Wondering if I’m having the same issue:

I installed a second server on Ubuntu (on the same network) using the same media files just as a backup. After reading this thread I’ve disabled hardware acceleration as well. Is this hardware acceleration issue only affecting Windows 10? Or I should disable it on Ubuntu as well with this version of PMS?
I have been having the same issues and am starting to consider going with a different platform. Does anyone know if these issues have been with like Apple or Linux? I have had to roll my server back to v1.18.0.1944 as it seems to have been the most reliable recently.
question for everyone I moved to the plex windows app and that reduced 80% of my issue now only live tv crashes my server. chrome - edge crash the server whether its remote play or local to the server.
now here is the real kicker. if I use the android app phone/ nvidia shield. I have 0 issues with HW transcoding. I’ve had these issue for the last month or so but everything tests fine.
based on HW transcoding I’m wondering if there is an issue with the codecs?
