PMS PC Freezes - Windows 10

Server Version#: Version 1.18.8.2527
Player Version#: Version 4.22.2

Hi all,

I have run my PMS on Windows 10 for a good 3 years now. Just recently, about 1-2 months, my PC starts freezing up to the point where I have to hard reset it. I’m not sure if this happened after the latest Windows 10 update was installed, but the timing was about the same time.

This PC only runs PMS and Tautulli. I have tried turning off Tautulli but it froze again today. Normally, it starts freezing every 2-3 days, sometimes sooner. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling PMS with no luck. I’m considering moving on to Ubuntu (learning it at the moment) and try running that instead, hoping it’d fix this. I was wondering what are people’s take on this. I have posted my logs as well, perhaps that would help. Please advise, thanks!

I’d roll back the updates. There’s an option to do so in Windows 10. I would also put a pause on windows updates for 30 days. I have my Win10 server set as such because i dont want updates breaking my pc. If the rollback works, you know your issue.

damn … it says I cannot roll it back because I installed update more than 10 days ago …

Version 1.18.8.2527 does seem to have some major bugs, I run it on a win 10, i3 machine. 1080p playing almost non-existant as it crashes right after play starts. 720p works for about 2min then crashes. I noticed that the cpu was running at 100% with or without video playing. I rolled plex server back to Version 1.16.6.1592, cpu usage hovers around 2-5%, direct play works again, and transcode works fine again. On 1080 and 720p. Again, with or without video, cpu usage is normal, and zero crashes since rollback.

Uninstall current version of plex and install version 1.16.6.1592, set updates to ask so the PMS doesn’t update automatically. wait for new public version before updating.

Here is PMS 1.16.6.1592 for windows. I am using this on win 10 currently, no issues.

Hey man, appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately, I went on a totally different approach. I was fed up, ended up learning ubuntu and swapped my whole OS last weekend. It has been pretty stable since, but learning to run ubuntu was a task in itself (worth it though).
