PMS revert back to old rating from stars

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252

I open my plex server this evening and I have stars instead of numbers. It was not this way yesterday and I have not seen a suggested update. I use IMDb ratings/percentage and now I cannot change/input the correct rating. Stars are pointless.

  1. Why did they change/update this without my knowledge?
  2. How do I get the old rating input back?

Nothing’s changed that I see. The star ratings have always been there, and they are separate from the IMDB rating. You have a choice of IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, or The Movie Database for online ratings:

And the stars are for your own use:

You’re seeing something different?

Perhaps it’s a matter of the selected Library view.

You can sort a Library by “Critic Rating” or “Audience Rating”, or by “Rating” (stars). Any possibility that was changed?

Yes… we have a problem. I am as I stated running 1.20.1.3252 and there isn’t a choice for rating source.

No rating field … just stars.

The choice of online rating sources is in the Edit Library area.

Your screenshot is editing an individual movie.

Thank you beckfield, but I know how to edit my library. Been a plex pass member since '13. The field is not you showed is not available. Plus, it still should be able to be edited in the individual move file as well.

I believe that with the new agent it is not possible to edit the online rating data - so the info Plex gets from IMDb or RT is downloaded and displayed, but not something the user can change.

I think the data structure changed somewhat to accommodate critic vs. audience ratings.

Edit: In the older bundled version of the Web UI, is still possible to edit the “Critic” rating, but IMDB uses the “Audience” rating, and I don’t think there’s any way to edit that.

Well, pardon the hell out of me. Just trying to help, pal.

Well, that is so not cool. It did not ask me for an update so this was a hidden behind the scenes type of nefarious stuff. I manage/review my library daily and this was not showing like this 12 hours ago.

This type of stuff is the whole reason why I decided to rebuild my database from scratch due to the horrible RT critics reviews that were showing up on every screen. 5k movies and hundreds of TV shows is a ton of work.

My apologies! If I could take a screenshot without the drop-down menu closing I would. Thank you Windows 10… again my apologies!

Hopefully they change it back, but I am likely to lose out on this one. Good thing I am a lifetime member in case they ever do.

I guess it is time to look at Stremio, Emby and MediaPortal… shame

The “edit item” interface is different between the locally-hosted PMS web interface and https://app.plex.tv.

On the bundled, locally-hosted version I can still edit “Critic” rating. 4.34.4

On the Plex-hosted app.plex.tv I see what you see - stars. 4.43.1

I don’t understand your use case. I think @beckfield was saying sorta the same thing.

If you use IMDB ratings/percentages, those are downloaded from Plex/IMDB.

Were you “using IMDB” but manually adjusting things?

Yes. I logged onto my server (localhost) and it is still editable from there.

It’s possible!

If I had the IMDB choice I would use it. I do not have that option. I was able to take a screen shot from my server portal. As you can see… no ratings source.

On a windows 10 workstation as soon as you click the sniping tool the drop-down menu closes.

This is bug fix on the edit dialog only. Ratings from metadata sources like IMDB shouldn’t be editable - that’s what the user star rating is for.

When did this go into effect? I have been able to edit ratings from the beginning.
