PMS setup never completes

Server Version#: 1.13.9.5456-ecd600442 amd64
Player Version#: N/A

No logs

I connect to my machine port 32400/web, follow the instructions, it goes to the “get plex apps” page, the “Next” button turns into a spinner, and then nothing. I left it overnight and nothing happened. There’s no way to complete the initial setup.

You don’t install PMS that way.

  1. Open Web brower
  2. http://plex.tv/downloads
  3. Select the package for your Linux distro
  4. Download it.
  5. Either manually install with sudo dpkg -i package-file-name.deb or use the graphical installer (which calls dpkg anyway)

That’s what I did. But eventually you need to connect to the plex web interface to set it up, right?

Yes,

When you install it , PMS starts on the machine.

Now, Is the machine local (on your same LAN/subnet) or remote (datacenter) ?

It’s local (sitting right next to my machine)

Next major question:

Is your LAN subnet compliant with RFC-1918… meaning

192.168.x.x, or 10.x.x.x, or 172.16.x.x -> 172.31.x.x ?

Yep. Just a standard 192.168 subnet.

Ok… then lets:

  1. Stop PMS
  2. ssh into the box
  3. sudo rm -f “/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml” (this is all on the same line)
  4. Start PMS
  5. Open http://ip.addr.of.host:32400/web

Huh. Worked that time.

Thanks!

If it sits too long, it will lock out.
What we did reset ownership and allowed you to jump in and claim it.

Should put that in the docs so you don’t get these questions all the time

I don’t usually get this type question. Most who set it up and have problems have problems for other reasons. They’re pretty quick to ask and there are a variety of causes.
