PMS suddenly shows issues with remote access 9/30/2021 10AM EST

Plex seemed to be working again for about a week and this morning I have lost my libraries again…

For those with the technical ability, getting your own cert from ZeroSSL and configuring it will solve this problem for now. ZeroSSL’s effective root CA cert is still on these TVs as far as I can tell. It doesn’t expire for a few more years. And it’s just as free as LetsEncrypt. It’s just not automatic or built-in to Plex the way the default secure connection system works.

I use nginx to reverse proxy plex (using the SWAG docker image) and it has a convenient and automatic way to get the necessary ZeroSSL cert and renew it as needed. You could also just setup acme.sh on your machine to keep the cert updated, and run the necessary conversion to pfx as a post-deploy script and point Plex’s advanced network settings at the pfx file.

I realize it’s pretty technical and not a solution for everyone, but it worked for me. I don’t think “just run things insecurely” is an acceptable solution, ever.

I just checked that with zerossl it works on certain models that with LE had stopped working as you describe it

If anyone else is stuck with an iOS 9 device like me there is a solution, you just have to manually install/trust the certificate by visiting https://letsencrypt.org/certs/isrgrootx1.pem on your device and click install as a new profile.

I just tried that on my server (docker on unraid)

Still can not use secure connections on my 2020 Samsung tv on same network and my father’s LG can’t access server from a remote connection.

Looks like I’m in the same boat, server unreachable from outside the network.

I’ve tried all the normal things and it just refuses to stay connected. If I hit retry it will connect for 3-5 seconds and then turn red.

I’ve tried logging out, setting insecure connections rebooting and nothing seems
To keep it working.

Do I just wait it out?

I am experiencing the same issue. I installed the last server release, my router has pnp switched off but I set a port forwarding to the server, if I ping the ip:port it works…but the server is dows in few seconds.

It is simply a remote access, why it doesn’t work !

After a long work to setup my library, I dont want to move to another software and start again.

Any news from Plex?

I’m noticing trying to connect remotely using Plex app on my Samsung The Frame 2020 TV (Tizen) that certain file formats plus other things no longer work:

  • Any video file where the audio format is EAC3 5.1
  • Subtitles (definitely don’t work on the EAC3 5.1 files, but haven’t checked others)
  • Theme songs for TV shows

Of course all file formats, subtitles and TV theme music work fine on my mobile, via Plex.tv, via Chromecast etc. when accessing via a secure connection.

Changing my app settings on the Samsung TV to allow insecure connections to “Always” allows everything to work again, but I prefer not to be running insecure connections to my server.

I understand there are issues with expired security certificates, however my question is that considering most file formats are working seemingly fine via a secure connection on the Samsung TV (which is less than 2 years old), why is that that some formats do not work when accessing via a secure connection? Is this something that Plex can fix via a server update, or is the only solution a Samsung certificate update?

I’m running Plex server version 1.23.3.4707 and my Plex app on the Samsung TV is running on the latest version.
