PMS suddenly shows issues with remote access 9/30/2021 10AM EST

Server Version#: 1.24.3.5033
Player Version#: Multiple

Hi all, I’ve been using a PMS instance on a 8th gen USFF Dell Optiplex running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS for a good 6 months now with great results and performance. No issues with my ISP either (Verizon FIOS). Port is manually forwarded, port checker sites state that it is open. Friends and family can stream remotely with no problems. I did upgrade PMS versions the day that this last version came out, but it’s worked fine since.

I noticed about an hour ago that all of a sudden my server lost the remote access connection. Nothing in the house has changed, ports still show open internally and externally. I rebooted the server entirely to rule it out as well.

I can still access my server from my phone on LTE, assuming through the Plex relay as it’s limited to 2mbps. I can’t figure out what the issue is otherwise though. Plex’s uptime page says it’s all good, but I’m leaning towards Plex being the problem if everything else works. Occasionally it will connect fully for remote access, then kick back out a minute or so later saying connection unavailable.

Any ideas?

Same here. I’m running Plex on a dedicated cloud server, i can access Plex over the IP and the default port just fine. I can connect to it over app.plex.tv just fine, but it says Remote Access is not enabled. There is no NAT to screw things up at all and other servers around the world are able to access my server on port 3200 just fine.

I can stream too, just limited to 2 Mbps due to it running through a relay.

Happy to supply more details

Ditto, Remote Server refused to connect.

Same issue, started the same time OP posted. My server version was months old, so I updated the server and now it wont start. This is why I don’t update the server on the Shield.

PMS on Ubuntu LTS and Remote Access just broke suddenly. All well and updated, ports open etc.

Broke for me as well.

Is there any resolution yet? Kinda frustrating. I spent all last night trying to get it to work…

Same here. Server reports remote access down. Comes back intermittently, but goes back down again almost immediately.

What’s strange is that android client and chrome works fine, but WebOS doesn’t work at all.

Following… same issue, all updated to latest version. Thought it was just me.
Server Version 1.24.4.5081

Well, guess I’m not alone. From plex.app.tv I show “Fully accessible outside your network” via port 32400, and in less than one minute, it changes to “Not available outside your network”. I choose retry and it will repeat (show “accessible” again, but only for a few seconds).
It’s possible mine could be operator error. I just upgraded to a DS420+, and after migration I ended up with v7. I had planned to upgrade hardware, then software, but it didn’t work out that way. It also didn’t import some/all of my network settings from my configuration backup. I guess there were some compatibility issues.
All seems to work well except for that outside connection dropping. I’ve checked port 32400 and it’s open.
I’ll check back later and see if there are any recommendations here.

Kyle

I have same issue, today new update and now remote access its crazy

Exact same issue here. Some people can stream from me, some can’t. Some can and it streams fine, but some get the indirect/proxy connection.

First they (Plex team) intentionally broke plex player for windows 7, then they broke plex player for older MACOS, then they broke intentionally ability to log to the plex from older Android stb devices over 130 brands, then they broke webOS support, now they are focused on the Ubuntu/Debian.

I would suggest to Plex owners to think who they employed and are they compromised financially from the competition to set you against your own interest.

Even if we set aside how bad support is over the years and almost nothing is ever fixed, everything here is fishy.
We all know how Mozilla Devs were bought off and they almost leveled Firefox to the ground.

Shutting down secured/TLS for Plex is mind blowing solution, and it will never happen.
Most of the people doesn’t use plex server in local lan but use it remotely.

Same problem,
Version 1.24.3.5033

maybe the problem from the error logs:
CERT: incomplete TLS handshake from [::ffff:54.170.120.91]:42696: sslv3 alert certificate expired

Potentially related?

It´s the same here … servers showing not reachable from the outside.

Exact same here in the Plex Media Server.log file

DEBUG - CERT: incomplete TLS handshake from [::ffff:54.170.120.91]:57334: sslv3 alert certificate expired

This IP-Adress belongs to Amazon ECS Webservices. It seems that a certificate there expired… they should solve it.

Right now Plex is not really usable …

is the issue related to this post? They don’t provide a list of unsupported TVs either.

Nice find. I’ll look into that.
Ironically, I just fixed my browser from showing an insecure connection (when I open Plex from my DS) with that certificate.
Also I have “No DNS rebind” option turned on in my router, but I have rebind-domain-ok=/plex.direct/ added in my Dnsmasq options for over a year and no problems.
I did read similar threads about same issue as OP mentioned here.
