The PMS hardware/OS requirements page Plex Media Server Requirements is very out of date regarding macOS, only mentioning support up to Sierra (released 2016).
macOS Monterey will be released Monday, October 25th. It has been in beta since June, 2021. Most app developers test their apps during the beta period and make/release a statement about compatibility by the release date. I know that PMS runs on macOS Big Sur (released 2020), and assume each release back to Sierra.
Has Plex tested PMS with macOS Monterey? Are there any plans to make an announcement or update the supported/required macOS details on the requirements page?
Good to see, did you preform a clean install of Plex or MacOS?
Guys don’t be in any hurry if you use a VPN with split tunneling as Monterey has changed from Big Sur. Therefore Split tunneling will at present not work under Monterey. If you turn off Split tunneling for Internet connection.
I took the plunge yesterday and installed Monterey on my M1… works like a charm.
I also found this “I finally found a solution that worked for me. Apparently the Monterey upgrade hosed file permissions. I ran the following command from Terminal to fix them:
diskutil resetUserPermissions / id -u
There’s some good information here: How to Fix or Repair Disk Permissions in macOS”.
Hope it works for you.
Also I run 8big LaCie drives and they are also working with no problems even though LaCie support said it would be a year before they would confirm whether their drives work with Monterey (just incase any with LaCie drives is interested).
Thanks for the feedback. See my other thread requesting Plex at least reply with their intentions on Apple M1 support - NOTHING from Plex, even though I contacted sales (there is no way to contact “support” - it doesn’t exist) and sales agreed to ask them to respond to my threads.
I’m not angry with anyone (especially you, another customer).
It’s just disappointing that PLEX doesn’t even respond to their paying costumers.
Even today, I replied to their blog post about new theme colors/UX, and because I mentioned they won’t respond to paying customer questions, they censored (review refused to accept my comment) my response. The blog post doesn’t seven show I tried to comment!
It is running on Monterey (ASi Mac mini) for me, since the release of Monterey. The Mac mini was running Big Sur, when I originally installed PMS. Maybe that’s a difference?
But without native ASi support, there are performance penalties that PLEX needs to address, and continues to ignore.
I have no experience with it running on an Intel Mac mini. I pushed an ASi Mac mini specifically for running PMS.
From reading here, I’m pretty sure there’re many running PMS on Intel Mac minis. Do some looking around & reading, and you’ll see discussions about it in many threads.
