Thank you. I didn’t know that (obviously). So this will fix the issue I was having with the plex directories?
Go try it.
If you’ve indeed mounted the Synology using user gordon,
Plex will now be able to read everything because it’s all running as your username.
Additionally, you’ll have all the same access.
Seems to be working. Thank you for your help once again.
Folder still disappearing, so not fixed. If permissions aren’t the issue, what is?
cd /mount/point/directory
ls -la
Does your username have access?
show me what it looks like.
If it’s there and then disappears, you have another problem elsewhere
drwxr-xr-x 21 root root 4096 Jun 20 12:19 ..
drwxrwxr-x 2 gordon gordon 0 Jun 20 16:46 Documents
drwxrwxr-x 2 gordon gordon 0 Jun 15 16:58 Downloads
drwxrwxr-x 2 gordon gordon 0 Jun 16 13:36 Media
drwxrwxr-x 2 gordon gordon 0 Jun 8 14:51 Movies
drwxrwxr-x 2 gordon gordon 0 Jun 22 14:11 '#recycle'
drwxrwxr-x 2 gordon gordon 0 Jun 17 21:21 .Trash-1000
Note: Use the ‘grave’ character (the ~ key) not apostrophy*
That’s how it should be.
Please further detail / show me, how it “disappears” .
Can you type in the directory path in the Plex/Web “Add Foldrers” or can you navigate to it from the Left side panel?
I click on the 3 dots beside tv shows, click on manage library, edit, and when I click on add folders the path isn’t there anymore. If i click on refresh on the browser, it reappears.
That’s a browser problem.
Exit the browser completely.
Open a different browser and see if you can replicate the results.
I was using google chrome and now I’m using firefox and still have the same issue.
do you have any plug-ins in the browser?
If so, turn them off for testing purposes.
ok, done that
and? I am expecting you to apply what I suggest and test again to see if you have success.
It doesn’t disappear straight away and I can’t control when it does. I have to wait. Why is it only happening to the tv shows directory though and not the movies directory?
Might be a stupid question but could it be the name of the directory that’s the issue? I know when specifying a directory or file with spaces it has to be enclosed with quotation marks. Would this be an issue?
where is the directory? Is it in /media ?
/DiskStation/Media/TV Shows
/DiskStation/Media/Movies
Yes. that’s right. I almost forgot. My apologies
You’re good then.
Since we moved PMS to now run as your username (which we probably should have done during initial setup), we can take a lot more liberties now.
Feeling bold?
- Stop Plex
- Unmount the Syno shares for your media (TV and Movies, etc)
(I think we did this but let’s be certain)
sudo chown -R gordon:gordon /DiskStation- mount it media back
- start plex.
Why does it only happen to my tv shows though and not movies?
I am curious too.
Don’t you have a tool (other app) which captures/gets them for you?
