If the plex media server is crashing - would like to see the debug server logs and the dmp file. Getting the logs first would allow me to identify the dmp file that was created - we save it afterwards in $TMPDIR
Please provide debug server logs captured after restart immediately after a crash
Also please include a zip of the files referencing Plex in the filenames that are within ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/

Yes it is still happening. Here is the full set of logs:
Plex Media Server Logs_2023-06-23_12-12-45.zip (791.4 KB)
DiagnosticReports.zip (32.9 KB)
Interesting - looks like loggings tons of errors and we stacked up massive number of log lines to write to the logs
I see you launched the server at about 09:26 am on the 23rd June
Do you recall what you did at about 10am ? Unfortunately all log files (we cycle 6 log files) have the same error and the 650,000+ error log lines only cover 5 seconds.
I suspect some media file is causing us to generate lots of error lines
Further to my earlier response - we know it relates to a media file and the activity stated around Jun 23, 2023 10:08 - but cannot say which media file it was.
I found something in one of the logs (I don’t remember which one now) that looked like a problem with some of my exported iPhone MOV files - I went ahead and remove the entire directory and it’s been running without any crashes.
If you can find the log, please let me have it
Also if you find the mov file, could you zip and send to me
Take a look at the “Plex Media Scanner Analysis.5 file” - this is where I noticed some warnings. Since they’re from a folder I recently created, I just removed that entire library. They’re videos of my kid from my phone so I don’t want to upload them here. I don’t really need them in Plex so everything is good on my end. If you want the file for the purpose of troubleshooting on your end, just let me know how I can send some to you privately.
@sa2000 : so we’ve tested this already. what we did was have that user sign in as another friend, and tried to watch the covenant. and it continually shut down my plex at 1:17. same user logged in as himself. same issue.
we deleted that file. he watched 2 movies, then watched a spider-man movie and it shut down my plex. I had another friend, watch the same spider-man movie from beginning to end, from a different location, as the same user and it did not shut down my plex.
So we figured it had to be this users home network that was doing something.
All of this is documented above in the convos with @BigWheel
@sa2000 : the same user who caused all the shut downs, went out of town last weekend, logged in as himself and watched my plex with no incidents. so we are pretty sure it’s his network.
he has verizon as a provider
I had a look - yes we have some warnings on one video file IMG_3095.mov
It is not obvious that these warnings would also lead to the repeated log entries that led to the crash
If you can try a test library with just that movie and see if it leads to the repeated logging of this error and eventual crash
ERROR - Mp4AtomParser: Invalid atom header size: 0
If it does lead to that - then would like to have zip of it sent privately to me to repro the issue and debug it - you may need to upload the zip externally and PM me a link
Thanks
could be - but either way - a transcoder crash / fail should not bring down the server and that is the issue that needs to be looked into at the Plex Media Server side - until that is fixed - will need to avoid having transcoder crashes
Could it to be to do with selecting subtitles ?
Happening to me also, running latest public version on Mac with M2 processor. Driving me nuts. I’ve read on another post that downgrading to 1.31.1.6733 fixes it, so managed to find that and running it - will see how it goes.
I can send my logs over if you wish?
I have a Plex Media Server development build to offer to Mac OS users that have been getting server crashes when the transcoder crashes out - this will not stop the transcoder crash but address the server crash issue
I will make this build available to Mac users who have passed me evidence of the server crashes - anyone else affected and willing to try, do let me know
We have just released a fix for this logging loop on a bad media file that led to exhausting system resources with millions of queues logging write actions
Beta Release **1.32.6.7371 **
- (Analysis) MP4 Atom Parsing could fill logs (#14418)
PS: the fix is already in the development build 1.32.7.7361 that was made available to you for the other Mac PMS crashes issue
