PMS Ubuntu 18.04.02 Not fetching meta-data and server settings unavailable

Nothing has changed since then.
There shouldn’t be a DNS issue.

I just logged in through Plex.tv and can see and play everything.

I also just verified that Plex Media Server is running as my admin account.

Hi,
Same problem here, can’t access server settings, and my last few media are not fetching any metadata.
The (funny ?) thing is that I’ve had some problem since I downloaded Fleabag which is in this thread too.
I’ll try to send some logs as soon as I can.

Any ideas of what is going on here?

Is there anything else I should do to help troubleshoot this?

Anyone have any ideas?

Do you lot use the ppa? It’s broken. I purged all of plex even removed left over files. Did a fresh install and I get " A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server." on the ‘Server Setup’ page.

I just switched to PPA to see if it would help with my issue. I have not had any problems with the PPA. It makes updating a little easier. I can’t for the life of me figure what is going on with my issue though. I think I’m going to have to try a complete uninstall/reinstall to fix the problem since no one on this forum can seem to help.

I did mean to update my post. Grabbing the deb was the same outcome. It’s a change with the OS as even older versions of plex no longer work. I went back to “plexmediaserver_1.15.1.707-d893009fb_amd64” and still couldn’t complete the setup. Plus when I restored home folders it still had the no meta grab and no settings page. Going to try and back track updates, I’m on Debian 9 so shouldn’t be many, just never looked into going back :-/

As a basic test:

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Rename Library to Library.save
  3. Start Plex
  4. Create a new TEST server (use “Test” as the friendly name)
  5. If everything now works as expected, then there was corruption internal to the old configuration. Proceed as appropriate.

Edit: mine is not related and I fixed it.

Edit: mine was unrelated and was my fault. Tinkering with my firewall the other day I ended up blocking all loopback calls :-/ I clicked after seeing all the calls plex makes over then. My default rule is block, so added a accept rule for loopback.

Blocking the loopback adapter on one’s machine is usually not the best rule to have.

It happens to the best of us

I stopped PMS and renamed my configuration folder to “Plex Media Server.bak” then started PMS. Got a general error before I could even name or do anything to configure PMS.

Update to 1.16.2.1321 (1297 is … umm, less than optimal)

One more time… try to start again… however… WAIT about 30 seconds after starting PMS.

  1. Sign out your Plex/web session first
  2. Open Incognito window
  3. Now try claim it.

Not having much luck. Did what you said. Same error.
I did a complete uninstall/reinstall. Still getting an error.

  1. Sign browser out of your Plex account (upper right corner)
  2. Stop PMS
  3. Rename Library to Library.old
  4. Start PMS
  5. Wait 30 seconds
  6. Open incognito window to server
  7. Setup a test server – Friendly name “TEST” – Add one small media directory.
  8. Let it complete.
  9. Stop PMS
  10. Create a tar.gz, as root, of “/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs” (must be complete)
  11. Attach that tar.gz

Is this running natively on the host? In a VM or Container?
