Can you post a link or instructions on how to use on deck to play the same podcast instead of an episode from another podcast/show? From what I can tell it always wants to finish playback of the last listened to episode instead of the one I want to playback. This is another reason for using My Podcasts tab instead of Recommended.
Thanks for the video. yes that appear to be a bug. not sure what is up with that.
you click on the episode of that podcast that is in On Deck and click Play. for a Podcast to be tracked by On Deck you need to add it to My Podcasts
I think the confusion is this…
You can play a podcast without ‘add to my podcast’
you only get ‘settings’ if you ‘add to my podcasts’ – edit: I was looking at long press menu, if click into a show, you can access show settings even if not in ‘my podcasts’
you can only change sort/play order by going to ‘show > settings’
I edited my previous post. I don’t always want to play the suggested episode thats why I use the My Podcasts tab.
See my video. This works to sort, but forces horrible UX, making the user scroll through 1000s of podcasts to find the one from last Monday. There is also a bug as displayed in the video.
This whole post you have been saying you want to play oldest to newest. but you seem to be wanting to play some other episode but I’m not sure what that choice is based on to give you an answer. The list is going to go one way or another.
Like I said the fact that it played some other episode than the on you selected in the list a bug I’ll need to investigate since I cannot reproduce yet.
if the episode is just one or two episodes before or after the one in on Deck then you could start that on deck episode then use the previous or next track buttons to get to the more close episodes. if it just some random episode you want to listen to then yeah scrolling through list is the only way real to do that. I’m going to make a bug report about it not playing the selected episode though
I did my best to explain it thoroughly here. I’ll try your suggestion of advancing one by one. Unfortunately that’s only a workaround, not a fix. Best option would be to have a button on the playback page allowing the user to set the next newer or next older episode to play.
Just tested your suggestion.
Chose podcast from Recommended
Used back/forward button to find the episode I wanted to play (clunky)
When it finished playing the 6/23 episode it started playing 6/22, not 6/24 as requested.
so given a list of 1000 unplayed podcast tracks
you want to view them newest to oldest (so you don’t have to scroll down to see the recent ones)
you want to start with podcast 990 (out of 1000), and you want it to continue playing the next newest (991) after you finish 990.
does that sum it up ?
PLAYBACK not sort/view.
You got it!
Yes I get that you want PLAYBACK, but you still have to VIEW something first.
Either something that is already ‘on deck’ that you have partially played, or the next in line (either older or newer from the last played).
Also, lets clarify;
are you trying to play multiple episodes in a row, or are you PLAYING one episode, then coming back LATER to PLAY another episode?
Valid point. While we are on the subject of viewing podcasts playback buttons here are misleading. It appears they have already been played, but when I click See All it shows which haven’t been played. Would be nice if the play buttons were colored as unplayed like the rest of the app.

I realize this may not be what everyone does, but its what I do. Sometimes I won’t finish an episode then not come back to that podcast series for a week or two. Just depends. I know its a wishy washy answer…but its honest!
Definitely want to play multiple in a row, from the same podcast. Everything I’ve tried either results in a bug (see video) or plays episode 999 after finishing episode 1000. I want it to play episode 1001 after finishing 1000 (older > newer).
well, partially played should show up on the ‘on deck/continue watching’ so that might be the best way to resume/continue the series, then you dont’ have to go digging through an episode list.
Good idea, but I tested it and still plays next older not newer. Also clunky to find the episode I want to play.
well, its gonna still gonna PLAY, the same sort order as VIEW
so your choice is to (currently)
- sort view OLD > NEW and scroll
- sort view NEW > OLD and play backwards in time
also, dont’ forget, you can MARK ALL AS WATCHED, then only UNWATCHED (listened) should play
See video showing bug in view sort old to new. Would you really want to scroll through thousands of episodes to find number 1999 out of 2005?
