Separate "Sort Order" and "Play Order"

It would be nice if it was like every other podcast service and allow you to sort by newest but play in a different order. I am constantly having to exit and restart because it plays the next oldest podcast instead of the next new podcast. Having “Play Order” and “Sort Order” should be two different settings.

Yes, this is quite frustrating. If anything, it should probably play the next newest episode by default. At least changing sort order will change play order, but it’s also annoying having to do it for each podcast.

I came here thinking to post this feature idea, but am glad to see someone else already suggested it. My reasoning is that I subscribe to a few podcasts with hundreds of episodes, and I always listen oldest first. But that means the order the episodes appear is oldest to newest. Trying to scroll past a gazillion old episodes to find the several newest episodes at the bottom of the list is a real pain.

I really wish the “sort order”, or “display order” were a separate setting from “play order”.

I have the same issue. I have a podcast with hundreds of episodes, and I’m half through. When I pick the oldest I haven’t heard, and then it finishes, it goes older, rather than to the next one I haven’t heard.

I wish I could upvote this request more. I don’t know anyone who listens to podcasts is reverse-chronological order, that’s like watching a TV show from end to start? What was the rationale behind this default queueing?

Yeah, I just tried migrating from Google Podcasts to Plex Podcasts and it’s so annoying there doesn’t seem to be a way to play in proper chronological order. It was enough of a pain to even mark the 250 already watched episodes as played - there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to do this rather than go one by one on the ellipsis menu -_-

By implementing this behavior Plex will match the traditional way of most other podcasts apps (TuneIn Radio, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts…) and the users’ expectations, besides offering a much friendlier experience.

Let’s say that this is an episode listing sorted as newest first. Bold ones are unplayed:

100
99
98
97

On Plex, when 99 finishes playing, 98 plays next. On other apps, when 99 is done, 100 plays.
