POLL: are you satisfied with the Plex Xbox 360 app?

Huge Plus 1 for the PLEX 360 app, no more tossing about with Pi (sorry Pi, you just don't cut it)

Similar , someone else can have my AppleTV Plexconnect , Plex360 works ok for me for now , till I can get my hands on a Xboxone......Start pushing out the features though Plex , playlists etc....nice work chaps

I like the interface but I'm having buffering issues.  Not sure if this is because I'm using a NAS or something else.  If I use Plex on my phone everything works fine, if I try and play something on my XBox it plays for a few seconds then buffers briefly and plays and so on. Shame because I'm not sure it's worth shelling for a better box, might moved back to DNLA and my boxee

Good start for the X360. Can’t wait for the finishing touches.

Can't believe you just said that, you are prepared to watch very low quality transcoded media on a pathetic half baked attempt at a client on a platform that is really a games console instead of direct playing up to 20mbit media in full 1080p with either full DTS or DD surround on something with tenth of the power at a twentieth of the cost! You either have not tried Rasplex 0.4.1 or are trying to impress other posters in this post.

I know what to expect in response - you have your opinion, I have mine - and I know what I'd rather use.

Regards.

And we all know what the say about opinions ........

@ Nedthenerd

I was talking about RASPLEX, It's ■■■■■... REALLY! I only use it for the TV stream.

And as for your first statement, Yes I am for now, even without the DTS stream because it doesn't break every 10 minuets.

I can believe he said that as I feel the same. We are all entitled to our opinions and we all have different experiences with different devices. I had the Raspberry PI model B 512MB and hated it. Aside from it being ugly with wires sticking out every which direction I found it to laggy and clunky for my liking. I over clocked and tinkered with it for about a week, then retired it. I pulled it out again later and updated to the newest RasPlex firmware and was still the same experience for me. It's a shame too because I find the RasPlex UI to be the nicest and closest to PHT which is my favorite UI. Maybe the Raspberry PI team will release better hardware in the future and then I may revisit RasPlex again. There's lots of potential there, but the hardware suffers being its just to inexpensive of a device. You get what you pay for.

Release a second $50 to $100 model with better hardware and I'd be the first one in line to buy one.

My two cents… And my experience.

After spending the past week with Plex for the 360, I've found its playback to be great over my wired network when Direct Streaming h.264 MKV's (though it's reported incorrectly that it's being Direct Played).  This is a very different experience when attempting to play the same file over standard DLNA to my 360 (it almost always has audio sync issues and often fails to play).  So kudos to the team who did the 360 app - you've saved me a great deal of time having to Handbrake a lot of my MKV's!

Cheers

I've got my nitpicks (Channels, default quality, Music/Photos, minor Menu Gripes, etc) but this is the "killer app" I've been waiting for.  Something that allows me ALL of my media streaming services + Gaming.  I think as more polish is added I'll grow more fond.  Now if only my 360 wasn't so loud (compared to the Roku) or power hungry, or the media remote worked without being pointed directly at the xBox!  Those are all xBox complaints though.

Well I love the plex app for the xbox360. I had issues with dlna with "unplayable content" problems when watching videos and having to restart the Xbox to continue watching.

Unfortunately I was away the day the 360 version was released and only got back 3 hours ago. I love the app for the Xbox 360 since I can now watch a full movie on the Xbox now :) saves me from building a low power htpc for plex for the time being.

I am not having any sync issues, quality on default settings are perfect for the wireless, can now play mkv without buffering every 30 secs. Can now play my vids that are 1080p without buffering issues. Tbh I love the app.

Would like a better interphase like plex home theatre but I guess there are Xbox ui limitations. Being able to browse your libraries by date/decade/letter/folder/etc like etc would be nice.

Overall it's a really nice job so far.

Keep up the good work

Ok for the first run.  The one killer is no 5.1.  Hard to say if this is a Plex or Xbox thing at the moment, because the Xbox video/audio support page says it will only support 2 channel, however a plex employee in another thread said it may happen in the future.  5.1 is so basic and mainstream now, I think it should be a given.  My 2 cents...

You must have the wrong setup, I have always had 5.1 from my Xbox 360.

The lack of 5.1 audio is what kills or for me. Otherwise it would be excellent.

I was very excited at a start and played all my content very well until I discovered it was only in STEREO??!!??.

The AVR still says Dolby Digital so some people may be fooled by that but 5.1 does certainly not come out of my speakers at least.

Today 5.1 sound is a vital part of a movie experience and the XBOX games can output 5.1 so I am afraid I have to give  it a "thumbs down".

Don't know if this is a HW limitation or what the reason is, but if there is no such limitation, I would say, go home, rework and come back when the app is ready.

(Said in a humble way. I know how difficult this could be but I am starting to get worried that the PLEX development is distributed on too many platforms. I rather have 5 brilliant platforms to choose from than 10 mediocre implementations if you see what I mean)

OK so you guys are not completely correct Xbox Will decode 5.1 on the following formats:

AVI container files encoded with 5.1DD

WMV encoded Files with WMAPro5.1 Audio

I have a lot of AVI encoded files and if they have a 5.1DD sound track I can hear that OK.

Just sayin

It’s a great effort so far, but one thing I would like changed is for having more than one row of posters in library view. Being able to choose by letter is quick and handy for sure, but I don’t always know what I want to watch so that doesn’t really help if you just want to browse your collection. This one row (5 and a 1/2 posters) a the time is madness so hopefully they change that in the future release. Even keeping that layout and just adding another layout or two would be fine.

Other than that looking really good… Thanks plex!

It is confirmed in this post by IMPLEXTEST, a Plex Inc developer, that 5.1 is not working in the current XBox 360 client, so not sure that you have actually tried this app. https://forums.plex.tv/topic/126648-multichannel-audio-ac3-51/?p=759861 https://forums.plex.tv/topic/126648-multichannel-audio-ac3-51/?p=759925

I’d say it’s a pretty good start, nice interface and basically works out of the box. A definite improvement on using DLNA.

Having said that, there’s definitely some more work required before it can replace rasplex as my main client. Needs to support surround sound, and be able to default to better video quality than 720p.

Read my thread, I never said PLEX can decode 5.1 I said Xbox can!
