I’ve been struggling with watching live TV over my local network on Windows 10 and Chromecast devices from a Shield TV server. It seems to effect HD channels mainly. I can watch TV without issue on the Shield but when sending to a client playback is fine for a while then suddenly stops with a spinny (buffering?) circle then never restarts. It usually stops after a minute or two but sometimes it’s shorter. The transcode performace in the server logs looks poor? Not up to what the plex documentation says a Shield TV should achive (2 to 3 simultaeous streams when doing hardware transcode from MPEG-2 to H264). I’ve tried watching broadcasts in original quality 1080 (DVB UK) and transcoding right down to 480p, no change. Tuner is a HDHomeRun Connect. If I use the native HDHomeRun Windows player (DVR not enabled) playback to the same client is flawless.
Do these numbers look as bad as they seem? Very variable and frequently below 1.0. Reinstalled the whole setup with everything is on defaults. No change. Network speeds are pretty fast. The shield has 16GB built in storage with 8GB free. TV library is on an external USB 3.0 2.5" disk configured as additional external storage. When I enable network access to the drive I can copy a 100MB music file down to my Windows machine from the Shield in about 1.5 sec. Seems plenty fast. I would appreciate any feedback as I’m running out of ideas…
