I have a close friend in the phillipines, she uses netflix no problem, however when she tries to stream from my server it constnatly stops and cuts out, she is unable to watch anything. Again every other service works fine and she has a 50mbps+ connection. She is the only person I know with the issue. Incendentally she is also the only one in the phillipines. So it seems like there’s a bit of a service issue in that region of the world. I enabled downloads fo rher but she has to pay a subscription fee for that!

Can anyone chime in? I am UK based.

You cannot compare a private Plex server with a professional video streaming service. Particularly if that Plex server is located on the other side of the world.

See Plex Friend is buffering whether or not transcoding is required, bit-rates seem to be within limits - #15 by OttoKerner

Obviously I know that but that does not answer my question, when me and friends are in Japan stream and stream from it, it is ok. However the phillipines seems to be a no go. I would like that explained. I would understand needing to pause it and let it buffer over that distance but not it not being useable at all. Obviously netflix will have a better service, but plex should still be functional even if you have to pause and buffer for 10 minutes.

Yes, it does. It’s mentioned in the link. Click on it. Read the linked post or maybe the whole thread in full.
