Poor video quality after PlexPass

Edit: Hardware acceleration was checked. Unchecking it fixed the video quality.

Server Version#: 1.32.8.7639
Player Version#: 4.120.1

I notice terrible quality from most 480p movies since I paid for lifetime PlexPass. Things are pixelated at the edges and there are vertical lines. Is there some setting that gets changed that I can’t find? It happens straight from server or from viewing remotely. If I play the same movie in a different movie player, it looks fine.

Thanks

They changed some default which seems to have impacted mid range transcoding.

Wait for staff they might be able to help.

Thank you. I added the fix I found at the beginning of my post. Hardware acceleration setting was messing it up.

Thank you for this! I just applied the update and all of my vids looked terrible. Unchecked hardware acceleration in Firefox, restarted the browser, and now it all looks fine again.

Intel QSV is awful unless you’re using a very late generation. Even then it has moments of poor quality. So basically if you want to have hardware acceleration you’ll want to go Nvidia. You can pick up a 6GB A2000 for pretty reasonable on eBay. I really like the video quality of the Ampere GPU’s. I just swapped out my Tesla T4 for an A2.

I use Nvidia 1080. Not exactly newest and best.

I’ve tested a few different generations of Nvidia GPU’s and Pascal (your 1080) is one of my favorite in terms of video quality. I think it’s smoother than Turing. My favorite is Ampere.
