Possible codecs issue?

Hi,

I have been ripping all of my dvds (of which I don’t have very many) with MakeMKV and then listing them in seperate TV and Movie folders following the file and folder naming conventions outlined by Plex. Every single dvd has been through exactly the same process. No differences at all.

All of them play back on my PC and all of them play back on my android phone.

However, on my android tablet a problem arises. Some videos are fine but on some videos I get sound but the screen is green and there is no picture. I have googled and it sounds like a codec issue, however, I also heard that Plex does not use external codecs and when I searched Google Play store for codecs all I got coming up were a series of different apps. I don’t want to use a different app. I want to use Plex.

Is there anything that I can do about this please?

The tablet is a Venue 8 7840 and is running Android 5.1.

Thanks for any help and sorry if this is in the wrong place as I had never even heard of Plex until very recently.

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you are trying to playback H264 files encoded using 10-bit. Some devices cannot handle this and you get the green colors and pixelation. This is a device limitation. The only way to avoid that is to force the playback to transcode, which will convert the video from 10-bit to 8-bit, which should playback properly.
