While I have spent insane hours going through and setting up Collections I am wondering if there is a way to remove all collections at one time instead of editing every single movie one at a time?
I tried to select several movies that I knew were part of collections and then edit the collection properties…but while you can add a collection to all at once you can’t delete ‘different’ collections at once.
Is there a text file that would allow this? A way to search and delete collections then resave?
Or, should I post this as a feature request? I mean, MAYBE I will be the only one to ever need this, but if I do, I doubt I’d be the only one that would use it. Either a universal “Remove ALL Collections” or one that removes from selected movies.
No. I don’t believe there is. I don’t think this was thought of because collections are relatively new. And still is a work-in-progress… Sucks though because it introduced a bug in which creates a “collection” for every movie…
There is.
Use the hosted web app and switch to the ‘Collections’ view.
Use multi-select to pick all posters of those collection you want to remove and erase them.
In the web app it is quite easy to delete masses of collections.
Go into the library - for this we will say it is called “Movies”
On the top of the listing click on the little down arrow next to “Movies”
Select “Collections”
On the resulting screen each collection will have a little circle on the upper left when you hover over it
You can select/deselect a collection by clicking that circle
Once one collection is selected you can just click anywhere on a collection to select/deselect it
Once you have all the collections selected you want to delete click on the three dots on the upper right of the screen
Choose “delete” from the resulting list
That is all there is to a mass deletion.
Note: Shift + left click can be used to select a range. That is say you want to select all the collections displayed you can click on the little circle of the first collection and then scroll to the end of the list and hold the shift key while clicking the last collection and all the collections will be selected.

the 3 dots are only available, if there’s “actions” available.
at the moment, the only action related to collections is to delete them. deleting collections requires “deleting items” to be enabled in your settings (Settings > Server > Library > Allow deleting media – wording might slightly vary).
After checking this option and saving the settings the 3 dots will be available, allowing you to delete those collections.

I don’t have a Collections view. I have a MOVIES view and a FOLDERS view. Server version: 1.11.3.4803
The latest Plex Pass server version is 1.12.0.4829 and the web version you should use is: 3.39.3
Odd, Plex always tells me if I have latest version or if there is a new one. However, my version still falls within the one listed as that version or above…but, upgrading now… thanks!
…
Ok…I updated…server version is what you had…but my web version went from 3.11.1 to 3.37.2 How do I get it to 3.39.3??
Also, for the PLEX people…would be really nice if the plex download page listed the version number(s)… just a thought.
install the latest beta version of the server… you can change to the beta channel to be informed about all those releases in Settings > Server > General > Update Channel (change from “public” to “beta”)

you have the latest public version. The Plex Web included in your server version is not yet capable of dealing with embedded collections.

I wonder how many people have or will forget they set this and delete their media by mistake.
If view by Collection is open then it should have it’s own delete flag.
there’s been a discussion about that early when inline collections were in beta. back then one of the ninjas commented there’s plans to do exactly that (disconnecting collection deletion from actual media deletion).

Ok…so I was able to delete all my collections. YAY!!! Thank you so much for the information. And it does NOT DELETE the actual files. I was worried!!! LOL
I did notice, however, that now collections show up AS movies. In other words, I have a 3D collection. 3D shows up as a movie in the movie library showing 3D as the tile with 114 movies listed instead of a year. Is this going to be the new norm? If so, not a problem as I will just sort them into a collections order. Or is there a way to turn them OFF from showing under the library?
