I spun up a new server and migrated my TV Shows library to the new server on a RAID 5. I’ve moved my Data folder to a third logical drive (Raid 1) to protect me from OS rebuilds.
I’ve created a library on the new server and pointed it to my folder with all my shows. I’ve let it go through analyzing and metadata gathering for a few days and everything seemed to have settled but I do not see any posters or preview images of the episodes. I’ve tried optimizing database, empty trash, refresh metadata and analyzing multiple times with no progress.
I decided to delete the library and move one of my shows to a new folder and added that library with that new folder and single show. Once it settles I still see no posters/previews. I went into %DATA%\Plex Media Server\Media and randomly traverse down to a folder and I see the episode preview image under the Thumbnails folder.
I’m not really sure where to go from here so any help would be appreciated.
I’ve tried server version " 1.18.4.2171" and " 1.18.3.2156". The results are the same.
Deeper diving into other issues I think my issue may be due to formatting my drive to exFAT. I choose this FS incase I ever want to move to Linux from my current Windows setup. I will be migrating my data folder to another drive, formatting to NTFS and will report back. Will take a couple days with the size/number of files in the Data folder.
You can even edit your fstab so that the drives get automatically mounted to save yourself one more step/make it easier to use when trying to deal with network shares, apps like FreeFileSync, etc.
I’m curious if the file system is the cause. I’ve run into similar problems, and my solution was to use TinyMediaManager. I didn’t re-download my media, but I did use the function to “clean up” all file names. It seems to have triggered enough of a change in the contents to force Plex to update again (after liberal Plex dancing and database optimizing to try and clear out previous data).
And when in doubt… I removed my Plex library and started over.
