Posters Missing on Android TV Client ONLY

My Sony Bravia X80j running Android TV with Plex installed is showing a grey rectangle for a number of the posters in my TV collection and Movie collection (maybe like 10-20% of them) with text overlayed on top (e.g. MY SHOW NAME S6-E1). This just started happened in the last couple of days.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling plex but same issue persists.

I use plex all throughout my house and mobile devices for my family. My other devices (roku’s and android phones and tablets) dont have this issue. Its only isolated to this Android TV.

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening all of a sudden?

I use Plex on my Hisense Android TV and have a similar issue. The posters generally show at first, but if I open a large library and start scrolling through it, after a while the posters all go away and are replaced by grey boxes. It seems the posters “load” as I scroll through them (there is sometimes a delay), but it seems this might be a memory issue, as when they stop showing even the ones that had previously loaded revert to grey boxes. The only way I can get around this issue is to exit the app, “Force Stop” it, and then re-open it. Once re-opened, I’ll have about 3 minutes of scrolling before it happens again. I really think it’s a memory issue. I can imagine a scenario where perhaps they need to keep only the posters currently needed in cache, and let older ones go to make way for new ones. For FHVs, posters are the only way to know what the file is, so this issue is a bit of a deal breaker for using the Android TV app for me.

I use a Hisense U6G and I have this issue as well. I have to force stop the application and clear cache for it to go away, but it always starts again after selecting 10-12 movies or TV shows.

that sounds like folder view

Yeah that is paging which is done on all clients but TVs generally don’t have a lot of memory which might explain it.

Thanks for reports. I’ll see if our QA guys have a Hisense Android TV to test on.
