Local posters go away on their own maybe once a week and come back after I manually click refresh metadata.
How long has this been happening? There have been a lot of metadata reported issues over the past 3 weeks, specifically with using the “new” Plex Series and Plex Movie scanners. Reverting to thetvdb and the movie db have been the temporary workarounds. Just ignore the red warning indicator and don’t “upgrade your library” or you’ll end up back on the new broken scanners.
Thanks for the reply, it’s been going on for months now unfortunately. The media are videos that are not on TVDB or anything like that (they are youtube videos), you think that work around will work still?
Settings - [Server] - ‘Show Advanced’ - Scheduled Tasks
These are probably relevant to your issue and/or your question:
Update all libraries during maintenance
Remove old bundles every week
Remove old cache files every week
Refresh local metadata every three days
Upgrade media analysis during maintenance
Refresh library metadata periodically
Before you change any of them, please tell which ones you have currently activated.
Also related: Where are your media files located? On a hard drive inside the Plex server machine? Or somewhere else, on a network file share (or worse on cloud storage).
And if it’s on hard drive: do you allow this hard drive to spin down its platters when idle?
Here’s what I have activated. All of my files (video files and posters) are located on Hard drives on one computer. I haven’t modified anything for the HDD’s to spin down when idle.
Any other suggestions here? I’m having the exact same issue. A subset of posters disappear approximately once a week, but come back after manual refresh of all metadata for each library. I had the 3 day local refresh disabled and still happened.
Update:
I started removing scheduled tasks one by one and I think unchecking “Remove old bundles every week” was the fix. I will update in a couple weeks if I confirm it is still working but it has been a few weeks now and I still have my custom posters up.
Also… I noticed when I go to troubleshooting and click “Clean Bundles” it removes the custom posters, which makes sense that unchecking “Remove old bundles every week” would be the fix.
