Plex Agent Refreshing Posters Nightly, and reverting manually selected posters

I’ve been having an absolutely strange issue since starting to use the new Plex agent a few days ago. My movies library will rescan overnight, and refresh some of the metadata and posters of some films. When it does refresh some of the posters, it’s refreshing the poster with a lower-resolution image than the one I’ve manually selected, and it’s pretty consistent in changing the same posters over and over again for the last few days.

Is this a configuration issue, or is this possibly a nasty little bug? It gets frustrating changing the posters constantly, only for it to revert back the next day.

Server Version#: 1.18.0.1392-cf94f6a1

Fresh update: I’ve noticed that it will actually incorrectly match a couple of movies, despite splitting them and fixing the match myself, previously. If this keeps up, I’m going to have to turn off the new agent. Very disappointing.

never heard of something like that. if happening every day then I would think it is either a scheduled task in server setting, but the only setting there I can think of that might only updates local metadata every three days. Or some sort of daily script possibly run in something like Tautulli. If you are running Tautuli or similar I would turn it off for a day and see if it still happens

No Tautulli installation, no custom daily scripts. Just standard scheduled tasks. But it doesn’t make sense that it’s essentially doing a complete refresh rather than just updating anything that might need updating.

There is no scheduled task that does a refresh like that. If you think it might be a scheduled task then I would change the time to sometime you are awake to look at the agent logs right after this happens.

Or change one thing manually then hit the refresh all metadata and see what happens and if it does it to that one item get logs.

Right. I know there isn’t a scheduled task that does that. That’s why I find it so strange.

Well I would try to figure out if it is happening at same time every night. I don’t know how often you add stuff, but look at the agent logs to see the last time the agents ran after you noticed it happens ( they are in plugin logs folder in logs folder). Then look at server logs around that time and see if there are any requests and what IP made the request.

Please make sure that the affected item is actually “matched”.
Because if it is not, Plex will try to match it during a library scan. Which then causes it to lose most manual edits to its metadata.
Inspect the contents of the guid="... property in the Plex XML info of this item.

It did it again overnight. I disabled all the scheduled tasks, and it still occurred.

I make sure every item is matched. This is occurring even after I have done a ‘fix match’. I also have 2 movies that are getting lumped in with another movie that has nothing to do with it. Just the strangest thing I’ve ever seen.
