There are a couple settings under “scheduled tasks” that say “refresh metadata periodically” and “refresh local metadata every three days”. I can only assume that this downloads anything like description, title, rotten tomatoes ratings, etc. But, more often than not, the rotten tomatoes ratings are off than what the actual site says. Am I wrong in assuming that the metadata refresh updates the rotten tomatoes ratings, or am I just looking at the ratings a day or two behind?
I was just checking the documentation for this, because I refreshed a series that had new posters added on TVDB/TMDB in the many months since it was added, but Plex wasn’t showing the new images.
Turns out the “Refresh metadata periodically” setting only applies to music libraries, which is very silly. Hope that helps you, though!
And to address the other setting, refreshing “local metadata” refers to local subtitle files, cover images/posters, etc. that you might add to your filesystem alongside the media.
