I have been trying to get the ‘movie theater’ experience working since buying plexpass, but there are several issues I have found.
Note: I am NOT talking about the trailers attached to individual titles in my library. Those are entirely dependent on my metadata provider and seem to work ok.
I am talking about the Plexpass feature of “Cinema Trailers”
-
An absence of trailers.
When “Include Cinema Trailers from new and upcoming movies on Blu-ray” is selected (and only that), I get NO trailers. Note for this issue, include trailers from movies in my library is off. I don’t want to see trailers from movies I have already included in my library. Ideally this would let me know about upcoming and new movies I could buy and add to my collection. -
Wrong/Mismatched trailers
When all the options are checked (http://prntscr.com/shi0gr), I do get some trailers, but often they are matched incorrectly. One such trailer I keep getting is the 1974 trailer of Wonder Woman. It’s obvious that plex is trying to show the trailer for the 2017 movie, but is matching incorrectly. -
Low quality trailers
On all (4) of the trailers I get before movies with all the boxes checked (see image above), the audio is extremely low bitrate and half of them are 360p. The ability to check a box that says only show HD trailers would make the experience much better. -
Only a handful of trailers
Seriously, I get 4 trailers. Aladdin, Mulan, the old wonder woman trailer and the Quiet Place 2.
I get the same trailers every damn time. Maybe show more, and then don’t show a trailer more than once in a period of time? -
Loading screen on trailers.
I have a preroll video, and I like the idea of trailers before movies. I have tried plex using the media player, on my smart tv app, casting from my smartphone. All of them have a stupid loading screen that shows before each trailer, preroll and movie. This cuts off my preroll, and ruins the surprise of a trailer. For a movie theater experience, they should flow one into another (Ideally precaching the next one). Now personally I would love to have this option on the Plex media player, but I understand that support for that is going to be tenuous in the future. Hell I’d buy a shield tv or another top box for this experience.
Any information is helpful, Thank you plex developers!
Edit:
6. Only show trailers in our native language! Now I’m getting a trailer that has (German Trailer 1) in the title.
