After syncing varying music playlists to my phone multiple times, i have come to the conclusion that the “Prefer Synced Content” setting does not work (on my IOS device anyway). Regardless of how I configure my settings, my synced media will always stream from my server over Wifi or LTE rather than from synced content. (Even if I set my PLEX app devicelocations to Local and Synced Content). However, when I turn my device to airplane mode, synced content plays back fine meaning the sync did in fact work properly. Any input on fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there an offline mode for the PLEX app? Thanks for your time everyone.

How do you know it is streaming from your server?

That doesn’t sound correct. When you have the local device selected, it only shows the synced content and doesn’t know about the original server it came from.

There is no offline mode.
I know it is streaming from my server because when I play music I see that a direct play is running from my server. Even when playing media that is synced to my phone, a direct play runs from my server unless that is intended. This occurs when I am playing from the Location “My iPhone (local and synced content)” and the Location “My Server (Remote)”. I do not understand why. Thanks for the reply btw.
I don’t understand either as that shouldn’t happen. PMS is suppose to track playback progress so it could be the tracking you see, but the file is actually playing locally. Can you play something from Local then get the log from your iPhone and from your PMS?
How may I go about getting the log from my iPhone? I can’t find it in the settings. Thanks
I have seen this same thing. Discussed here https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/241220/how-do-i-get-the-plex-app-to-use-synced-content-over-streaming#latest in the iOS thread.
Issue still occurring.
How do I get logs from my Iphone? I will send logs from my Iphone and PC whilst this issue is occuring. Thanks.
See this for finding the log. https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201636593-iOS-Logs
My issue is also with synced music playlists, but on Android. If I correctly sync files, they will be available perfectly if I’m in airplane mode. But if I have no data (no reception, poor reception, etc) the synced current will NOT play, even though I checked the Prefer Synced Content option.
Agreed that it’s not respecting the Prefer Synced Content setting. Now, if it’s just sending the watched status back, fine, but on music, I can not tell if it’s playing content synced locally or not. Further still, music should never buffer if locally synced, which in bad coverage it still does for me.
Plex folks have any insight here?
The prefer synced content will only work if your quality setting allows for the synced version to be chosen. Since it can’t transcode the synced version, if your quality settings are lower, then it will prefer the server copy. Could this be the issue?
