As cable companies continue to go all digital the HD Home Run Prime will become obsolete. It’s nice to see Plex having a lot of free channels but I think Plex should step it up a notch and offer premium channels for a fee. Similar to cable companies offer different bundles and offer a per Channel option as well. Me personally I love every TV channel as there’s always something to watch. But also cater to the ones that just like a few channels. It’s an additional Revenue stream and you guys already have the infrastructure. As for local channels have the user integrate a HD home run connect, this way Plex doesn’t have to figure out how to get local channels for every area.
Sorry to burst your bubble but Silicon Dust, makers of HDhomerun already attempted this and it was short lived. Not because the demand wasn’t there, but because licensing was an issue.
Given that most services have what’s called add-on channels, it’s better that Plex just piggy backs on that:
Yeah I remember when Silicon Dust tried doing that. But Plex is the master of license deals:).
They wouldn’t be able to if they wanted to.
Fox affiliates are streamed under the Tubi app.
ABC affiliates are streamed under the Disney+, Hulu and ABC Network apps.
CBS affiliates are streamed under the Paramount+ and Pluto TV app.
And not but not least, the NBC affiliates are streamed under the Peacock, NBC and perhaps the Xumo (nbc newly acquired Xumo) apps.
This can be done using TV Everywhere, and use credentials for a TV package you subscribe to, but plex closed all the suggestion threads for it because “*They totally called a guy and he said no” while another program does it just fine.
*They can’t be arsed
That seems like a pretty cool web-based application. But I’m more looking at a cable TV experience on Plex. They’ve got the guide to where it needs to be, now they need to start offering premium channels:).
Roku version 12 just announced they’re going to offer premium description based channels. Time for Plex to follow suit:)
Keeping the dream alive! ![]()
This should hopefully go both ways and Plex integrates YouTube TV. Plex loves Partnerships and it would just be logical to be mutual between both parties.
