In plexamp, by default, under Playback - Streaming Quality - Ethernet or Wi-Fi, it is set to Maximum. With this setting, when playing back 5.1 audio, the 5.1 mix is preserved and played back, assuming things are configured properly.
However, if you set this to a bitrate, and then playback 5.1 materials when remote, in the transcoding to the bitrate, it downmixes 5.1 to stereo.
For one that goes to the trouble to maintain 5.1 audio to playback, this is undesirable, and should not be taking place.
I recommend a correction to this, to maintain 5.1 audio when transcoding to the bitrate.
