Preserving The Plex-Web Interface

Server Version#: All
Player Version#: Current

Recent upgrades to the Roku and Android apps have dampened the appeal of PLEX for me. In a nutshell, navigation in those apps has been blurred by a move away from the top-down, server oriented approach that we’ve all become accustomed to. Navigation no longer flows intuitively, in the same way that data is organized on disk and/or across different servers. Some may argue the aesthetics are improved, but I would argue that these interfaces seem alien to many of us who’ve spent hundreds, if not thousands, of hours, compiling and organizing our media in accordance with a very specific set of guidelines.

Compounding the matter is the fact that these interfaces seem best suited for touch oriented devices, which is not what the Roku is. In my opinion, the new Roku interface is a huge step backwards for those of us who prefer using a remote control. In some ways, the Roku app is now unbearable, if not unusable.

That leaves me (us) with only PLEX-WEB as the last remaining interface that flows/works intuitively, using top-down navigation that’s consistent with the way in which our data is organized on disk. My question is how do we preserve that interface and ensure that the PLEX development team does not change or alter it in the same way they’ve done with the Roku and Android interfaces?

tvOS / Apple TV is still the “old style” but I don’t expect that to be the case forever.

Uhm, you don’t? It’s their software, their rules. I’m not saying it’s right or best or anything. It is, however, the reality.
