I have ten+ different tabs, Hollywood movies, TV shows, Cartoons, Christmas Movies etc…. I love previews I find movies not on my radar I find things I need to seek out…. YET THERE ISN’T A SINGLE THING I GO TO WATCH THAT HAS THE STUPIDEST PREVIEW EVER THAT PLAYS FROM MY KIDS CARTOONS TO “G” rated Christmas Movies “Werewolf by Night” it absolutely kills the mood kids cartoon, holiday movie…… Previewed by you will “S” your pants look at this scary movie…. Why oh why must I be tormented by such a bad movie preview. How can I delete this from haunting my every movie viewing life…….??? I will never be interested persuaded etc… Please make this ungodly soul crushing Pre-View go away
What previews are you referring to? A screenshot would help.
Before a movie starts I have it set to see three previews/Cinema trailers to other movies. So I came across a large number of Christmas movies that I had not seen or heard of. It was really helpful to see a preview of the different movies to better find what I might like.
What I didn’t like was a warm fire, a G rated Christmas movie, a mug of cocoa… all snuggled up. When blaring across the screen is a preview to a horror movie. How can I make this preview go away and die…?? I don’t have it on my system I don’t even have a service that would allow me to watch it. Is there a preview/Cinema trailers folder I can delete it from…?? There has to be some control?
Seems you’re talking about Cinema Trailers which can be included to play before a movie.
You can control that feature in Settings > [Server Name] > Extras – though if you want Plex to show you trailers from movies outside your library, you’ll depend on what trailers Plex picks for you. That being said… Plex usually picks trailers with a matching rating (e.g. no R/M rated trailers when you’re about to start watching a movie rated G or PG).
How can I stop the one movie trailer that insists on being played before every movie. It’s almost always one of the three trailers. Can I force a refresh of trailers. Can I go in and delete it from a folder…??
Right now I’m being haunted and abused by this offending trailer. It must go away.
FYI… Depending on the movie/show and it’s source a G rating could actually the following…
Guidance (G) ratings to warn viewers of any content that may be distressing or unsuitable for children.
See https://help.channel5.com/hc/en-gb/articles/200815031-What-do-the-Guidance-symbols-on-programmes-mean as an example. Have noticed a fair few UK channels using this and these can make their way into certifications on the tmdb which will then make their way to plex.
So, G ratings should not be assumed to mean general for all audiences anymore.
Cinema trailers are online extras – they’re not stored on your server.
If you want to play only trailers from your own library, you need to disable those online trailers (see settings reference above).
Ok…. Surely there is more than one movie coming out. Why is this stuck on play before every other movie I watch…?? Yet I’ve never seen a a Top Gun or Avatar or well I’m stuck seeing this one over and over.
Isn’t there a mark played…? Doesn’t the system know there are other movie to trailer to me?
I have my “Experience” set to “Don’t Play”, but set it to 2, started play on a few Movies and I saw different trailers each time and no repeats (and never the one you referred to). Not sure why you’re stuck on that one trailer repeating.
Give the Plex Server the `old:
Maybe you have not only a trailer set, but also a pre-roll video?
Settings - Server - Extras - ‘Show Advanced’ - “Movie pre-roll video”

if you have 10+ libraries, there may not be a huge selection of related movies to show trailers that are similar to the selected movie. I have “Werewolf by Night” in my movie library, and in the pre-play screen for the movie, related movies include “Strange World,” “Sonic the Hedgehog,” “Raya and the Last Dragon,” “The Croods” and “Hotel Transylvania” as well as a bunch of things I wouldn’t consider closely related.
All of my movies are in one library, so there may be a bigger selection of material to consider for the trailer preview, but Plex usually finds a trailer really similar to the movie I am going to play.
Seriously this is a Plex problem… I watched two movies and this stupid same preview/trailer played before each. Somewhere somehow there has to be a reset.
I have one library for hundreds of Hollywood movies and yet I’m forced to see the same preview that’s not even viewable on any of my sources. They must have paid Plex a lot of money.
Plex please provide a solution……???
There are a few open questions you haven’t answered yet; maybe one of those already has a solution.
Specifically:
- have you checked the
Prerollsetting mentioned by Otto? - have you verified this issue persists after rebooting your server as suggested by Tony_T?
- what’s the actual configuration in
Settings>[Server Name]>Extrason your server?
I’ve rebooted at least twenty times. I shouldn’t need to change my settings from wanting to see all trailers or new movie trailers to just local trailers. My settings are not set at “annoy the hell out of me” with the same trailer playing before almost every movie I watch.
This is clearly an ongoing problem. I’m given no control and wish this problem to go away. Clearly Plex needs to address and fix this problem…. Many might be silent as it’s cool seeing the trailer to Top Gun more than once etc….
But I think we can all agree it’s a very easy fix to add a command line that says only display Y trailer X times. Boom done all of my problems and complaints go away. But instead I’m haunted by a trailer of a movie I never want to see and have no ability to see going on now tens of dozens of times we are talking forty to fifty plus times this stupid trailer has been forced upon me if it was just a few times I wouldn’t be on here ranting. Today alone it was played on three of the four movies I watched.
Sadly I shouldn’t be the person identifying a problem and then going the distance to devise an easy fix. Yet my feedback is falling on deaf ears.

Another two weeks goes by and I still cannot watch a movie without the same trailer haunting me… two movies two times it appears.
Where is a solution for trailers control. There at least has to be some directory or file I can delete to reset things. A way to set a view count limit.

I have not had this issue and if not in the mood I just hit ➧❙ ( Rightwards Arrow to Bar) when playing a Title, it takes you to the end of a Preview or end of immediate Content.
While I appreciate the response. I shouldn’t have to fast forward through a trailer for every movie.
Even if it was my favorite movie trailer I wouldn’t want to see the same trailer in front of every single movie I ever attempt to watch for months and months on end…. Especially such a bad one.
