Problem Adding Das Boot (1985) to Plex

Server Version#: 1.25.4.5468

Hi all,

I have both Das Boot (1985) and Das Boot (2018) mini series, but Das Boot (1985) is not getting it’s episode data populated.

Das Boot (1985) shows the proper show metadata at the top level (i.e. general description of the show), but each episode is labelled with a generic “Episode 1”, “Episode 2”, etc. It is not picking up information from TMDB or TVDB?

I even tried specifying the TMDB ID and IMDB ID but the episode information still will not populate.

I wonder if the scanner is getting confused with the number of versions of Das Boot - movie, TV, 1985 vs 2018, etc… but like I said, even with a TMDB or IMDB ID in the search, the episode info won’t populate, only the top level show overview…

Edit: One other issue too is Das Boot 1985 is auto merged into the 2018 mini series, I had to “split” the episodes out, but that’s a minor issue compared to the meta data.

If both are TV series, then put them in a TV library (not a movie library) and label one Das Boot (1985) and one Das Boot (2018).

There is no Das Boot (1985).

Das Boot (1981) was a movie and should be in a Movie Library.

It got cut-up, lengthened, and re-aired on TV in 1985 as a miniseries.

But it was originally a movie, so TMDB and TVDB classify it as a movie.

Then there is indeed a “Das Boot (1985)” series.
Here it is Das Boot (TV Series 1985-1985) — The Movie Database (TMDB)

I should have said … per TMDB and TVDB policy, there’s no such miniseries.

That’s a brand-new entry, created last week. Maybe it will survive, and maybe I’m wrong.

TMDB has deleted the 198x-something miniseries a few times.

Deleted:

Das Boot (TV Series 1985-1987) — The Movie Database (TMDb)

These blockheads trying to change history again, then.
I was watching the series as it was aired back then. I know it happened.

I wish it was possible to see deleted entries, at least a note about WHY they were removed, Wikipedia-style. It’s really annoying to see the same things created and deleted over and over again.

I can understand the “original version only” rule, even if I think it’s applied too consistently. But it’s SOO frustrating to see entries created and deleted for the same reasons.

This is a really interesting case, too - the movie was first, but there are multiple different miniseries versions, and they have different content.

Does that mean they’re just “Directors” and “Extended” cuts? I guess that’s consistent, but … geez.

This is an interesting one. I see the movie defined here …
https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/387-das-boot

and a TV show defined for it here …
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/156249-das-boot

As the TV one was created only a few days ago and was created by non admins/moderators (Das Boot (TV Series 1985-1985) - Changes — The Movie Database (TMDB)) I’d imagine it will QUICKLY be deleted once they find it. TMDB rules are clear on stuff like this. If it originally aired as a movie back in 1981 and then later was adjusted for TV they will always go with the original classification. Everything else is irrelevant. There are some exceptions to this, approved by TMDB admins but not many. Its a similar conversation which is happening on another thread related to Stephen Kings IT.

EDIT: One more addition. Upon checking TVDB I see an entry for a 1985 airing does not exist. They have it also listed as a movie from 1981 (Das Boot - TheTVDB.com).

I have this in my library, but had manually edited it, as it did not used to match.

As it is now on the tmdb (albeit may be only for a short while) I have now just matched it again and see the same as the OP, no episode titles or episode summaries

But what is a bit odd is that it gets the correct episode titles in the sort field, but the actual title field is empty.

Yes, they’re in a TV library - I’m a long time Plex user, I’m pretty familiar with how the system works … but Das Boot is a unique situation where the scanner doesn’t seem to work properly no matter what I do.

Yeah, I really dislike TVDB, especially the fact some of their mods in their forums are extremely rude. I guess this would be a super-duper-long-extended cut?

Still, Das Boot 1985 the Mini Series is on IMDB and TMDB, why isn’t the scanner picking it up from there?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure TVDB removed the TV listing and replaced it with a movie listing, which seems illogical when they are a TV database. Also they didn’t make it a “special season” of Das Boot 2018 either, which I have seen with some other shows.

Either way, Plex’s reliance on TVDB and TMDB perhaps should change - the Scanner does support IMDB but it doesn’t seem to pick up the metadata details from there?

The mini-series Das Boot is a particularly frustrating case. I’ve had it in Plex several times over the years, but both TVDB and TMDB keep removing it. Then it gets re-added, like it just happened, only to be deleted again. I gave up on this one eventually. IMO, it absolutely should be in all the databases as the mini-series it legitimately is. Alas, the DB soup nazis won’t have it :stuck_out_tongue:

Ironic, a show about Nazis, being denied an entry by TV database Nazis.
