Problem adding Library with Plex server

After not using my Plex media server for a while I tried tonite and all the media was ‘Unavailable’. Checking on my NAS all the media was exactly where it was supposed to be. In fact, the media location given in the Plex media server was correct, but for some reason, Plex could not see it. I checked the access rights. The plex user had access to the correct folders.

At this point, I tried deleting a library and then adding it, which is when I came up against the bug I am trying to get help with. When you Browe for Media during the Add Library Wizard. I was presented with the directory structure of my NAS. I selected Volume1, then Video which is where my media is located. At which point the directory contents I am presented with is:-

/volume1/video
plex ..Back
/
volume2
volume1
config
btrfs

At this point selecting volume1 again takes me back to the ‘volume1’ folder and so on round and round ad infinitum. I have removed Plex and reinstalled it via the Synology Package Center. Still the same result. I have deleted all the libraries and reinstalled from a fresh download, same result.

I ssh’d into my NAS and had a look round. The folder structure is correct and this circularity does not exist there.

I checked the Plex user access permissions and as far as I can tell everything is okay.
I had to reset my NAS recently, this is the first time I have used Plex since the reset.
I have seen mention of a Plex shared folder in some of the posts, I do not have such a folder.

I suspect that some configuration information is being carried over, but how I get rid of it I have no idea, I have done everything I can think of to install a virgin Plex Server, but nothing seems to make the problem go away.

I am not a Unix expert so I don’t know what else I can do via ssh.

Sincerely Ric Evans
P.S. I shall attach my logs as soon as I can figure out how to do so.
P.P.S I cannot see any way of attaching a file to this post, if the logs are needed please contact me.

Plex version Version 3.53.7
downloaded file PlexMediaServer-1.13.2.5154-fd05be322-x86_64.spk
DSM version: DSM 6.2-23739 Update 1
Model DS1817+
Plex Media (2.3 MB)

There is a well known quirk with DSM.

Every now and then, it will forget the permissions you have given user plex.

It is very annoying.

To resolve: Control Panel - Shared Folders - video - Edit - Permissions

Give user plex permission to read again. (toggle it if you need)

Rescan your files.

If this still fails, we will dig deeper into what’s happening

You were correct this seems to have solved the problem, it is currently scanning my library. Hopefully, everything will go through okay.

It’s “one of those things” about owning a Synology. It’s in their database somewhere and either they can’t find it (very believable) or not a priority.
