I noticed that when I played Matlock S2 E2 it played Elsbeth S2 E2. The file is 9GB two hours long. When viewing the file with a video editor. It indicates that the file is 2 hours long but only will play 1 hour. When looking at the plex information it show a start time for matlock 9:00 PM and Elsbeth 10:00 PM.
This appears to be the only program failing to record. Elsbeth recorded fine. Except a couple of its files are 2 hours long.
Any help would be appreciated.

I’m no expert, but sounds like an EPG issue. When you look at the upcoming recordings, are they scheduled for 59 minutes or 2 hours?
I looked at the guide data for my local CBS station and they show it as the old Matlock with Andy Griffith. :-/
Yes Plex can’t differentiate between S2 E1 and S2 E1 old Matlock and New Matlock. I checked
last week’s schedule and both were scheduled to record for one hour at the correct time. Currently I don’t see any recordings for Thursday yet.

Not sure how the EPG provider gathers all their data. The broadcasters? The local stations? I’ve had this kind of problem several times with my local stations and reboots. Night Court, Quantum Leap, etc. And when they mess up, it isn’t always consistent, so I always had to keep checking on what was upcoming. Slightly frustrating. 
Don’t recordings recorded to a library use the EPG guide data for show, episode name/number, cast, description, etc? I know movies do that, so I guess I assumed shows do too…
I wanted to go look at the Plex Media Server logs. There are 5 files. But they don’t go back far enough. I asked AI if I could increase the log size, it responded that I could increase the number of log files which would go back further. It said to increase the number of files edit a file called preferences.xml of config.sqlite. These files don’t exist.
Tonight I went to watch brilliant minds. I’ve watched 5 episodes. When I clicked on brilliant minds in the continue to watch section. I found all 6 episodes were abbot elementary episodes 1 thru 6. I stumbled around for a while until I saw that there was a season 1 2 and 5 I was in season 5. When I moved to season 2 Brillant minds finally showed up.
Later I was checking out the brilliant minds folder on the Linux system that I stream the videos. In the folder called Brillant Minds was a folder call Abbot Elementary and Boston Blue. I have no idea how these two folders ended up there. I watched Boston Blue the other day.
Any Ideas what is happening?

The keyword is LogNumFiles
And disable Verbose logging.
This comes to mind first: Adding a folder to the library, which is located inside of a folder which has already been added to the same library. Check the Add Folders tab of your library properties for overlapping paths.
Don’t point several Plex libraries to the same folder.
Every day I look to see what programs have been recorded the previous night. I then move the recorded programs to the proper folder on the streaming system in the TV Shows library. I watched the first 3 episodes of Boston Blue. By going to TV Shows and clicking on Boston Blue and clicking on the episode that I wanted to watch. I watched 3 episodes of Boston this way. Today if I look at the Boston Blue only episode 4 is located in Season 1 folder. In Brilliant Minds folder is the Boston Blue folder along with episodes 1-3.
So the recorded video files are not placed by Plex into their storage location?
Are they even recorded by Plex, or by a different app?
They are recorded by plex and played by plex.

Plex should place the recorded file into the library that you assigned when you scheduled the recording.
PC A PSM stores the recorded videos on G:/Videos/recordings. PC B stores the recorded videos on G:/Videos/recordings. Then the recorded videos are moved to PC C TV Shows.
Are all recordings off by an hour? If so, have you refreshed your guide since day light savings?
all of the recordings are on time. The Matlock videos are 2 hours long but when plex streams them it says that they are 1 hours.
A little more information on PC B it recorded three episodes of Matlock. Each file is 9GB. I started to watch the program and it was not Matlock it was Elsbeth. I thought that maybe the viewer was starting in the middle of the file. But today I found out that the file conatins two copies of the same program.
according to the schedule Matlock was supposed to start at 9:01PM on Oct 23 and record for 1hour. Yet the file it created is 2hours long and the properties say that it was modified 10:59. It also contains Elsbeth episode twice. Also the Elsbeth Oct 23 episode shows Elsbeth the first hour and the 11:00 PM news for an hour.
As I stated the schedule information in the xml data has the correct information to record as the correct times and duration.
What’s going on?
Sounds like you have added “Minutes After End” to each recording.
You will have to check in two areas, each scheduled recording and the DVR settings default which would make each new schedule have the padding.
I would agree about the minutes to end except I have only used that feature on Sunday because of sports causing program to run long.
Further checking shows that the Matlock S02E2 file was created at 9:01pm it was modified at 10:59pm. If I stream this file, it shows Elsbeth S02E2. If I skip to the middle of the video it starts over playing S02E2 of Elsbeth. I didn’t know the Plex could record a program before it aired.
PS the DVR is set to 0 start and 0 end
no the logs don’t go back to last Thursday. I changed the numLogFiles to 10. I had 5 I didn’t expect them to increase to 10 over night. What xml data are you talking about. I created a program to display all entries in the media/subscriptions/schedule. The output is start time end time channel and title. It shows that Matlock should start at 9:01pm and end at 10:00pm
