Problem with Library Update on Plex (New Movies and Shows Not Matched)

Hi everyone,

I’ve been having an issue with my Plex library for a while now.
My server is installed on a Synology NAS, and it’s been running smoothly for several years.

I’m using the “The Movie Database” agent, and everything works fine with it — for example, in my Movies library, all the films are properly found and matched.

However, for quite some time now, Plex has been showing the following message:

“Library update required”

I performed the update, which basically means switching to a new agent.
The movies that were already matched are correctly updated, but the problem is that whenever I add a new media file (movie or TV show), Plex is unable to match it.

I have no idea how to fix this issue.
For now, I’ve switched back to the The Movie Database agent, which still works — but for how long? I’m starting to get a bit concerned.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?
If so, do you have any solution or workaround to suggest?

Thanks in advance for your help!

My first suggestion would be to apply the “Duplicates” filter to your library view and see if these new additions are being added as duplicates of existing items.

Aside from that, for matching issues it’s always a good idea to provide a specific example of an item which was not detected (include the full path and file name). For better or worse, the modern scanners/agents are a bit more strict when it comes to adhering to Plex’s naming and organization guidelines.

Thanks, @pshanew.

I don’t have any duplicates in my library.

The issue happens with every new movie I add.

For example, I added Titanic.
The path is:
/volume1/Partage/Plex/Films/Titanic (1997).mkv

When I try to match it manually, it doesn’t work — it just says “No results found” (I’m using Plex in French, where it displays “Aucun résultat trouvé”).

What surprises me is that it happens instantly — it looks like Plex doesn’t even try to search at all. It just fails right away.

It starts with following the Naming Guide that goes with the new agent :https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files/

Plex is trying to make everything use SSL so if your DNS isn’t working with Plex then the new agent will fail to find things.

They should also display a big red warning banner that says “Repeatedly switching your agents to Legacy will hose your database”.

What happens if you create a folder called Titanic (1997) and put your file into it?

Would it be possible to see the server DEBUG logs ZIP file, captured after performing a “Scan Files” and a manual attempt to match one of the movies which does not match?

  1. Ensure DEBUG logging enabled
  2. Scan Files
  3. Get into the movie (Plex/web)
  4. Attempt to match
  5. Download Server Logs ZIP file
  6. Attach ZIP file here please

Also which directory is plex pointed at? Partage, Plex or Films

Thanks everyone for your messages.

I’ve followed the naming recommendations carefully.

I tested by creating a new library at:
/volume1/Partage/Plex/Movies
If I move Titanic there, I get the same problem.
If I switch back to the old agent, it works.

My libraries point to the subfolders inside /volume1/Partage/Plex,
namely: Films, Musiques, Séries TV, etc.

I’m attaching the log file.

Sounds like another instance of Plex doesn't match movies or tv shows - #8 by OttoKerner

Additional information:

Uninstalled Plex Server from my Synology and reinstalled it:
Same issue with the Plex Movie agent.

Installed another server on my other Synology: same issue.

Installed another server on Windows: same issue.

Each time, if I switch the agent back to the old one (for example, The Movie Database), it works immediately.

Could this be an issue with my router?!

This is not the same as deleting the codecs.

My server is linked to my account @hotmail.fr.

I created a server linked to this same account — I have the problem.
I created another server linked to a different account, my Google account, and there I don’t have the problem. I can use the Plex Movie agent.

But I have a lifetime Plex Pass with my @hotmail.fr account, so this is quite annoying for me.

I have become an active forum user after the recent Roku app stupidity. But since I am here, let’s air some more grievances!

If you haven’t heard already, the Plex Metadata agent SUCKS ON TOAST!!! I constantly have to revert back to the Movie Database agent to get correct Metadata information.

Why does Plex keep breaking things that work?
