I’m going to speak up here, AS A FELLOW USER 
There are changes happening at TheTVDB which I’m not overjoyed with.
I’m discovering that long-stable media naming isn’t valid anymore.
Over the past few days, I’ve renamed 11 TV series. It’s a pain in the … to resolve.
The steps I take are to look at the match scores Plex gets when manually matching (search, not auto). If it’s not well above 90%, i go look at the TVDB and figure out what they changed the naming to be.
In every case so far – It’s been either
- Add the year to the series
-or- - Remove the year from the series.
It looks like they’re preparing for the 2021 editions . There are a number of new shows which are remakes of the originals.
In these cases, when we want the older, it’s guesswork. Sometimes they put the year in the older series name and sometimes the newer.
I keep trying with FileBot until I get a good hit and then let it do the rest.
It seems we’re all kinda stuck right now because it’s changing – concurrently with the new scanner coming out.
As FYI, (Plex Hat On),
The new Plex TV Series scanner & agent works really well. It’s in preview so it is getting close. There are some things to be worked out but it hasn’t mismatched anything I’ve tried so far.
I will hang in there until they get it ready (which has gotta be close
