Server Version#:Nvidia Shield v1.20.4.3517
Player Version#: Nvidia Shield v8.18.2.25850
I have a Plex Media Server running on Windows 10 PC and a Plex Media Server running on my Nvidia Shield TV.
Recently I moved to a summer house for 2-3 months and I decided to take my Shield TV with me and use it both as a server and player.
That way I won’T have to stream from home to the summer house and play the files locally on HDD which is attached to Shield TV with USB cable.
So I started the Shield TV PMS. and configured it with “TV shows” library which has the files on the HDD.
But the Plex Player on my Shiled TV does not play any videos from the Shield TV Server.
On any tv show or movie play attempt I get the prompt:
“An error occured while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.”
The same Shield TV plex player can however, play my files on my main PMS which is at home.
How can I troubleshoot the issue on my Shield TV Player ?
Btw, I can play files on my Shield TV PMS from a web browser.
I also tried to play files from same server on my Android phone Plex Player. I got the same:
“An error occured while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.”
is this a problem on the players or on the PMS ?
I got 2 logs in the attached zip file logging.zip (332.3 KB)
actually I believe the Shield TV Plex Player should be accessing the Shield TV Plex Server with its LAN IP.
Which is 192.168.1.33
so how can I let it access securely ?
Secure connections don’t work when accessing per IP address.
It is also not necessary to have encrypted communication if server and client are in the same local network, or even on the same machine! Where would the evil eavesdropper be located in this situation, (from which the encryption would provide protection)?
ok but it is not me who selected “secure connections” by default on Shield TV server and player
They come like that when installed.
So is this a “default config problem ?”
And when accessing from my Android phone, I use the mobile app , I do not enter any IP address.
why I have this problem also when accessing from my Android phone to my SHield TV server on same network ?
if I use “insecure connections” (which I have to force now because otherwise Shield can not play),
then Alexa skill can not use the server. I assume Alexa skill requires “secure connections”
Alexa complains about remote access not being enabled.
When I check “remote access” settings of the server, I see that it is enabled but it gets lost after a few seconds.
I also mapped port 32400 on my router to the Shield TV LAN IP address.
Alexa requires that your server is remotely accessible (the intelligence of Alexa resides in “the cloud”).
With the above mentioned issues with router and DNS, this is probably not the case.
my external IP is accessible from internet and I have mapped port 32400 to internal server’s 32400
so it is totally accessible , but for some reason , the Plex server settings shows it inaccessible after some time (first it says accessible)
if I allow insecure access, then plex server shows accesible.
Did you look at the DNS Rebinding section of the linked article? It sounds like something in your network is preventing secure connections. Beyond that article, you might not be able to get further help in these forums
I’ve checked all of the documentation. There’s no DNS rebinding feature on my Netgear router.
The problem doesn’T seem to be about router or network. Because the problem starts on the Shield TV.
Client and Server are on the same device with 1 IP address.
The client is accessing the server internally without even going out to the switch/router.
At this scenario , why can’t I enable secure connections ?
Also I don’T understand why nobody could help me.
I’ve already provided the log files as requested.
Couldn’t anyone have a look at my logs ?
